If you can't wait to see the Ford F-150 for sale in Sydney, you'll be stoked to know that the iconic pickup truck is on schedule to arrive in Australia in mid-2023. And as the anticipation builds, we've taken a look at some of the need-to-know details of this muscular American favourite.

The Ford F-150 for Sale in Sydney, Australia: Towing Capacity and Specs

The Journey

Before it can go on sale down under, the F-150 needs to be remanufactured with a right-hand drive, and this has been undertaken in Mickleham, Victoria. RMA Automotive is currently in the process of testing the trucks to ensure that they meet the rigours of local roads. Three-quarters of the parts have been provided by suppliers in Oz in order to meet RMA standards.

The Build

The F-150 is tough all the way through, with a fully-boxed frame constructed with large cross sections and high-strength steel. The aluminium-alloy body is lightweight but heat-treated to ensure military-grade strength and rigidity. The available trims will be the practical XLT and the more luxurious Lariat. And Ford has recently expanded the available wheelbase options to give four possible builds rather than two.

Short-wheelbase versions will have a 1676mm tub and a 3683mm wheelbase. The long-wheelbase option will have a 1981mm tub and 3988mm between the axles. The XLT will be available in five colours; Oxford White, Iconic Silver, Agate Black, Carbonized Grey, and Antimatter Blue, with Lucid Red as an additional option on the Lariat.

The Tech

The Ford F-150 has a towing capacity of up to 4.5 tonnes and a payload of over 1,000kg. And although available packages have yet to be confirmed, Ford has also developed a range of features to make towing and trailering easier. These include trailer sway control, pro trailer backup assist, trailer reverse guidance, tow/haul mode, and hill start assist.

Ford has confirmed that safety assist technology will also be available, so features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and a rear-view camera are also likely to make an appearance.

The Powertrain

When selecting an engine for the F-150's debut in Oz, Ford focused on power and capability in particular. The 3.5l twin-turbocharged V6 Ecoboost engine will be the first powertrain to become available and promises a powerful punch, speedy acceleration, and great fuel efficiency. Hybrid and electric engines are likely to follow once the remanufacturing process is up and running.

With 298kW horsepower and 678nM of torque, this engine delivered the best-in-class payload and tow rating for the American F-150 in 2022. It's teamed with an innovative 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This has optimized gear spacing to maximise low-rpm torque, fuel efficiency, and power and features three overdrive gears.

Excitement is already heating up, and it certainly seems as though the F-150 is ready for its comeback to the outback. And with so many Aussie customers eagerly anticipating its arrival, it's definitely worth registering your interest with your local Ford dealer to keep abreast of the latest news and developments.
