Potters sweep Jungkwanjang 3-0 Hyundai Capital loses second full set in two games
The women's professional volleyball team, Korea Expressway Corporation, has bounced back from a winless start. Hyundai Capital is next up for the men.
The Road Corporation swept Chungkwanjang in straight sets 3-0 (25-21 25-22 25-20) in their Dodram 2023-2024 V-League match at Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon on April 2.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak after opening the season. With a record of 1W4L, 5 points, they moved up to sixth place, dropping Pepper Savings Bank (1W4L, 3 points) to seventh from the bottom.
Foreign player Vanya Vukiric led the way with a game-high 31 points. Except for the opening game against Heungkuk Life, the team had scored between 20 and 30 points in the other games, but their offensive success rate was in the low 40s. In this game, however, she was purely efficient, shooting 62.79% from the field.
Asian quarterback Tanacha Sooksut, who hails from Thailand, continued to adjust to Korean volleyball, scoring 11 points to help the team to its first win of the season. Middle blocker Kim Se-bin, the No. 1 overall pick in the rookie draft, began to prove her worth with a team-high four blocks. The return of star setter Lee Yoon-jung from injury is also a good sign.
The defending champions came late to report their first win, but with a sweep of Dolphin's Jeonggwanjang, they are poised to make a serious run at the early season standings.
The only team in both the men's and women's divisions without a win since the start of the season is last season's runner-up, Hyundai Capital.
After an embarrassing 0-3 shutout loss to Korean Air on the opening day against Woori Card and Samsung Fire, Hyundai Capital battled back to win the next two matches in full sets, but still failed to get the win. They are seventh in the league with five losses.
In the away match against KEPCO on March 26, the team won the first two sets, but lost the fourth set after deuce and then lost the last five sets due to a lack of concentration.
The away match against OK Financial Group on March 31 was a similar story. We won the first two sets, but lost the fourth set in deuce and then the fifth set. At 14-13, the opponent made a receiving error, but Ahmed made a critical error and allowed a deuce. Setter Lee Hyun-seung then broke down in tears after a series of unforced errors sealed the defeat.
The team's next match is against KB Insurance at Cheonan Yugwansoon Gymnasium, their home court, on May 4. If they lose to KB Sonbo, they will suffer a six-game sweep in the first round.
The good news is that the team is breathing better as time goes on. Hyundai Capital head coach Choi Tae-woong had predicted four to five weeks before the opening game on March 14 that Ahmed would start to feel better. “Ahmed is a big offense, but we need our domestic players to do well,” Choi said. Jeon Kwang-in is the core of the team, but his poor physical condition is a big problem,” Choi said, adding, “I think it will take about four to five weeks.” 토토사이트
