Guided 4-day whitewater rafting trips down the Salmon River or Snake River in Idaho are thrill rides from beginning to end. They’re great for families (and even kids as young as 7) and friend groups.
If you’re going on your first guided whitewater rafting trip this summer, it helps to know what to expect. You’ve probably asked questions about trip logistics, but there are a few more worth asking your guide to make the most of the experience.
What Are Your Favorite Rapids?
Between Salmon River and Snake River rafting Idaho, you’ll encounter dozens of hair-raising rapids (mostly of the class III and IV variety). Every rafting guide has their favorites, and there’s usually a reason why.
Some like challenging rapids, others like splashy runs, and some like chill stretches. When you ask about your guide’s favorite rapids, you’ll learn more about those rapids and what makes them special.
Will You Take Our Picture?
When you’re on the river, there may be a moment when you want to get a selfie or a group shot of the family or friends. A lot of people try to do it themselves, and the results are varied. And yes, your phone or camera will go overboard if you aren’t careful.
Always ask your guide if they can snap a shot of you and your group, and they’ll happily oblige! You’ll end up with a much better shot (with everyone in it) than if you try it alone, and there’s less worry about your device ending up in the river.
What if I Go Overboard?
If you’re going on guided Salmon River or Snake River rafting tours for adventure, this is a question that’s usually addressed before you head out on your trip. But if it’s on your mind, ask it. It’s always good to have the answer in the back of your mind, should you go over.
Nobody knows what the river will do next, and rapids toss people around and into the water quite often. Luckily, you’ll be wearing a personal flotation device, and there are throw ropes and other flotation gear stored on the rafts. Your guide (and likely your raftmates) will help get you back on board.
