Every pet owner has a feeling that dry food is always better than wet food because it helps in cleaning after the pet. However, best wet dog food has its own benefits and as it contributes towards the betterment of the digestive system. So there are many food myths when it comes to feeding the dogs and maintain their diets, whether normal or special. Also, because it is quite difficult to feed special needs, puppies and senior dogs, the job of the pet owner is never easy. If you have more than one dog at home, it will take you a lot of time and effort in buying the food products, leave alone the feeding. So if you are struggling with feeding your dogs, here are three tips that are going to help you out:
Compost untouched foodA lot of pet owners tend to make the mistake that the food that has not been touched by your dog can be fed to them once again in another serving. However, this does not apply with dogs because they do not or rather should not have cold and stale food. It might be a waste if your dog is unwilling to eat the excess, so in that case you can try composting the food. Also, it is much wiser to give them a small portion initially and later if they still seem hungry, another serving can be served. However, in case of wet food you can store them in the refrigerator for not more than 5 days but it’s only for very healthy dogs.
Do not remove carbohydrate completelyA lot of pet owners have this vague idea that they need to feed their dogs with dry food alone that consists of pure protein and very less carbohydrates and fats. Yes, it is true that dogs needs a higher amount of protein as compared to carbohydrates, starch or fats, but cutting them down completely will have a lot of negative effects. The number one negative effect would be them suffering from digestive issues as well as constipation from a long time. This can result in them feeling anxious and itchy, and as a result they may shed a lot of fur even when the shedding season is over. So you need to provide the best wet dog food as well from time to time.
Don’t stick to one kindBelieve or not dogs have a very sensitive taste bud and they will react immediately to any new kind of food that has been introduced into their diet. Their acute sense of smell also allows them to become picky with what they are eating. So, you should rotate their food and keep a schedule about what they should be eating on which day and date. This will help in satiating the taste buds of your dogs and preventing them suffering from mood swings due to boring diet.
Also, a lot of owners feel obligated to give the dogs treat on a daily basis, it is not a right behaviour. Properly balance the puppy food along with its regular treats for better health.
