Pregnancy is the most beautiful period of a woman's life. But, it is also the hardest few months a woman has to endure, even excluding the labor pain. Many steps need to be taken to protect your body and fetus from any infections during pregnancy. Here are a few tips that would help with that part:
1. Partially Raw Meal:
Many people like their meat cooked partially. But, being pregnant requires many eating habits and advancements, including how to serve meat. Make sure that whatever you eat during your three trimesters is thoroughly cooked. The presence of a harmful bacteria named Listeria Monocytogenes increases the possibility of infections. This bacteria is usually found in unprocessed meat, so avoid eating Deli-meats in case the meal is not done properly.
2. Get Tested For Group B Streptococcus:
Group B Streptococcus is one of the most common infections found in pregnant women. The symptoms of the presence of this bacteria are not easily shown, thus most don’t even realize it. But, it is highly possible to be transferred from the mother to the fetus during labor. To avoid getting your child infected with the Group B infection during pregnancy, make sure to get the test taken. A simple swab test would prevent your child from suffering from unwanted infections.
3. Maintain Your Hygiene:
The simplest and easiest way to avoid catching any infection during pregnancy is to maintain hygiene. Wash your hands before and after meals religiously. Make sure to clean up after getting home from outside. Drink lots of water and eat fruits & vegetables after washing them properly.
4. Get Tested For STDs:
There is no shame in getting tested for Sexually transmitted Diseases like HIV or Chlamydia. These are one of the most contagious diseases which you want to protect your newborn baby from. So, make sure to get all the tests done so that the infection during pregnancy does not pass onto your child.
5. Keep Away From Sick People:
Though taking care of the sick during their hard times is a virtue, you should avoid their company while pregnant. A common cold can harm you and your baby, so be aware of all kinds of infections. Make sure to maintain your body temperature. Protect yourself from sudden cold weather or hot breeze so that your baby can feel no discomfort. Especially be aware of people who have chicken pox or rubella.
6. Avoid Touching Pet Waste:
If you have a pet at home, try to avoid litter and other waste throughout your pregnancy. The litter, especially cat litter, contains parasites of different kinds, which are very harmful.
These are the first pointers that will help you avoid getting any kind of infection during pregnancy.
