A 1989-born coach emerges as Women’s U20 head coach

Park Yoon-jung, 34, has been named head coach of the women's national team.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) announced on Wednesday that it has appointed Park Yun-jeong, the current women's national team coach, as head coach of the women's U20 national team.

Born in 1989, Park becomes the third women's age-group coach and the youngest women's national team coach in history.

Park began her coaching career in 2016 as the head coach of Yeoju University after playing for Seoul City Hall in the WK League, Chungbuk Sports (now Sejong Sports) and Albirex Niigata in Japan. She then coached her alma mater, Pohang Women's High School, before joining the KFA full-time in 2019, where she coached the women's U17-20 national team and experienced the 2022 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup.

Since December last year, Park has been the head coach of the Women's A team, led by Colleen Bell, which competed at the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia-New Zealand 2023.

Park will continue to serve as the head coach of the U20 national team and the A team.

With Park's appointment, the Women's U20 team will be rebuilt with the goal of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia next September.

To qualify for the World Cup, the team will need to finish in the top three at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Women's Asian Cup in Uzbekistan next March. Park will be assisted by former KFA coaches Ko Hyun-bok, Kim Dae-hwan, goalkeeping coach, and Lee Ji-sung, physical coach.

The women's U20 team will hold its first call-up training at Paju NFC from June 6 to 9.

The initial roster included 31 players under the age of 19, including Bae Ye-bin (Widok University), 카지노사이트랭크 who was named to the final roster for the 2023 Women's World Cup, and Kim Se-yeon (Chungju Yesung Girls' High School), who recently participated in the Paris Olympic Qualifiers.

The roster was later reduced to 22 players and reconvened on Nov. 24 before training in Uzbekistan until Dec. 4. The team will also play two friendly matches against the Uzbekistan Women's U20 National Team on November 30 and December 3.
