Subclass 500 visa
It is offered by the Australian authorities, to students who wish to pursue higher studies in Australia. Depending on the duration of the course, the visa will be granted for 5 years. It is important so that you prepare yourself to abide by the rules.
What does an Australian Student Visa require?
The following requirements should be met for getting a visa:
● Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE)
Under the GTE, the visa applicant is required to prove that he has genuine intentions of pursuing studies in Australia. Even if you are going as a dependent or with a guardian, you will have to prove that your intentions are genuine. The home affairs department will delegate the duty to a group of decision-makers who will assess the value of course for your future and ingenuity of your interest. They will also take a look at your circumstances in the home country and your immigration history.
● Criteria of Financial Ability
You will be required to prove that you have sufficient funds to support your education and bear your living expenses. The living expenses for a student are around AU$20,290. Your funds should include your travel expenses. In case you have dependents, you must be able to cover their expenses (including education, living, and travel expenses).
● Your Health and Fitness
You need to be in good health for being eligible to go overseas. You will be asked to pass some radiological or medical health check-ups. You will also be required to purchase the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) from the university in which you are seeking admission. It can also be obtained from the five centers approved by the Australian government. These five centers include Medibank Private, BUPA Australia, nib OSHC, Australian health management, and Allianz Global Assistance.
● Proficiency in English
You will be going to an English speaking country; therefore proficiency in English is a must. You will have to pass the IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL according to the course you have opted for. The required scores will be different if you have opted for a foundation course or a full-time college degree. An English language intensive course will also require a different score.
