Permanent Residents and Citizens in Australia or qualified citizens of New Zealand can qualify to sponsor their family members for immigration to Australia. There are diverse Family Visa options for migrating to Australia for sponsors looking to sponsor Australia PR for families.

The Family Class Immigration Sponsorship in Australia allows eligible individuals to sponsor their dependent kids, parents, or relatives. The sponsored people can join them in Australia on a Permanent or Temporary basis.

In the majority of the cases, the sponsor has to prove financial ability to support the family member for a maximum of 2 years upon their arrival in Australia. They may also have to offer AOS - Assurance of Support in some cases inclusive of payment of a fiscal bond of a maximum of 10 years.

Subclass 101 Child Visa

The Child Subclass 100 Visa is for a dependent kid younger than the age of 18 years. It is also for a dependent more than 25 years old who is incapable due to a physical or mental disability or a child or stepchild adopted by the Sponsor.

Usually, the kids arrive in Australia with their parents. So it is required that the authenticity of the relationship is established with the Department of Home Affairs while filing the application.

Subclass 173 and Subclass 143 Contributory Parent Visa

Overseas parents seeking to reunite with their children in Australia can apply for Subclass 173 or 143 Visa. It helps them to avoid the long period of wait. The processing times for this Family Visa category are around 1 to 1.5 years.

Parents have to fulfill the balance of family criteria. Also, sponsors have to provide the 10-year AOS bond for the applicants to be paid while processing the PR Visa.

Subclass 884 and Subclass 864 Contributory Aged Parent Visa

Parents seeking to avoid the long processing times in the usual Aged Parent Visa can opt for the Contributory Aged Parent Visa. The processing times for this Family Visa category are around 1 to 1.5 years.

Significantly higher numbers of slots are available under this Subclass Visa category. The higher fee for Visa application is due to the health costs incurred due to their age.

Subclass 116 and Subclass 836 Carer Visa

Carer Visa is for specific individuals eligible to offer support and assistance to you permanently for a longer period owing to medical conditions. The application involves offering proof to demonstrate that the help by the Carer is unique and cannot be offered by other members of the family or community in Australia. Further, the medical support is required for at least 24 months.

Subclass 115 and Subclass 835 Remaining Relative visa

The Remaining Relative Subclass Visa is for individuals who do not have close family relatives overseas. They must be a sister, brother, step-child, or child of a Permanent Resident or Citizen in Australia or a qualified citizen of New Zealand.

For married applicants, all the rest of the relatives of their spouse have to be settled in Australia.

Subclass 103 Parent Visa

Overseas parents seeking to reunite with their children in Australia can apply for the Parent Visa. Their application has to be sponsored by any of their children who must be Permanent Residents or Citizens settled in Australia.

Parent Visa application is offered the least priority in comparison with other Family Sponsorship Visas like Partner or Child Visas.  This Family Visa is for a parent whose minimum half of the children are residing in Australia. They must be less than 65 years of age or not aged to the extent of getting an age pension in Australia.

Aged Parent Visa is quite identical to a Parent Visa. The only difference is that the applicant is aged adequately to get an age pension in Australia. Effective from July 2017, the age-eligible is 65 years and 6 months for both male and female applicants. It has been increased by 6 months every 24 months and is now 67 years in July 2023.

Subclass 838 and Subclass 114 Aged Dependent Relative visa

Aged Dependent Relative Visa is for single, divorced, or widowed aged relatives, above 60 years for females and 65 for males. The Sponsor has to be a Permanent Resident or Citizens in Australia or a qualified citizen of New Zealand residing permanently in Australia.

While only limited slots are available annually for Family Visas, the demand is huge. This is the chief factor for the long processing times, even up to many years for these Subclass Visas.

Once the yearly allocation is exhausted, the rest of the applications are processed in the subsequent fiscal year. As fresh applications are also filed annually, the waiting times are prolonged.
