One way to boost a cat’s water intake is to avoid certain types of liquids.

Try not to offer her salty-tasting liquids like brine when attempting to boost your cat’s water intake. Avoid offering milk to your cat, particularly if she has been diagnosed with a kidney-related illness because milk has high phosphate levels. Milk from cows is not fully digestible by cats and so it might trigger diarrhea.

Other suggestions to boost your cat’s water intake include:

Liquids combined with onions/onion powder such as broth or stock. Cold temperature reduces the flavor of liquids, so ensure room temperature for your cat’s drinking water and the various other liquids you offer her.Instead of dry-type cat food, feed your cat wet-type cat food sold in pouches or cans. Be sure to consult your veterinarian when planning pet diet modifications. Try adding a bit of water to your cat’s wet food to boost her water consumption.  There are cats who will eat soup-like food.  Add room temperature water and avoid cold water. Should your pet exclusively prefer dry-type cat food, still try to add some water and see if she eats it.

Patience and consistency can go a long way. Make changes gradually since cats will not like any abrupt changes to their water or food.
