The pandemic globally has taken a toll on the lives of humankind both physically and mentally. It has been found in research the issue of heart health will continue to increase unless the mitigation strategy is implemented properly and speedily. In the last two years, when the health system across the world collapsed because of extreme pressure due to Covid-19 as well as the people fearful of catching the disease, individuals having a severe cardiac events like heart failure or heart attack could not get admitted to the hospital and in such scenario did not even consult the doctor and know about the treadmill test price to detect the issue and get treated. Consequently, many people died at home from this medical condition.

A Brief Discussion:

There were cases where people did receive the treatment but there has been a delay in reaching the hospital. The chance of an individual surviving a heart attack depends mostly on appropriate and timely treatment. The researchers found the issue globally but worsened in low and middle-income countries. Clinics and hospitals in such countries failed to provide gold standard treatment and did not even recommend the basic TMT test. The result is an increased death rate among patients with cardiovascular disease.

The problem will increase:

According to the researchers, the disruption in cardiovascular services will indeed leave a mark that requires prompt action by the health administrators. The researchers further claim that collateral cardiovascular mutilation from delayed treatment and missed diagnosis will continue to increase unless the right mitigation approaches are speedily implemented. Urgent action is required to address the cardiovascular disease burden that has been left with the rise of a pandemic.

All about hospitalization:

Globally, hospitals saw a 22% decline in people with serious heart attacks where one of the arteries that serve the heart is blocked. There was a 34% decrease in people attending hospitals with less severe heart attack form, where one artery is blocked partially. The decline is not because people are not having a heart attack but because fewer people attending the hospital for availing of the treatment.

The decrease in people attending the hospital was observed across the world but was quite higher in low and middle-income countries. On average, it has been found in research, that the patients took 69 minutes or more to receive medical assistance for serious heart attacks right from the start of the symptoms.

Heart attack management

Heart attack patients do not become serious if the treatment is given during the golden hour which is within an hour from the time of the attack. Gold standard treatment is what the patient needs mostly. It means a stent needs to be inserted in the blocked artery. The low and middle-income countries saw a sharp decline in the procedure. There was a sudden shift in treating the patients. Clot-busting drugs were used instead of inserting the stent. Worldwide, there has been a drop in heart operations too. Using of pacemaker were also decreased to a great extent.

Deaths due to heart issues:

Worldwide, among heart patients in hospitals, the number of people dying increased by 17%. It was because of an increase in death rates among patients with cardiovascular disease in low and middle-income countries.

The repercussion of the Covid-19 on heart health care as well as the outcome will be with humankind for a long time. People must not fear and should avail medical assistance whenever experience any heart issue. Cardiovascular disease remains the biggest killer in the world and tackling the disease post-pandemic urgently has become more important. Cardiovascular disease must not be neglected at any cost as it can be life-threatening.
