Quinton de Kock delivered a sensational performance under pressure, but even his brilliance couldn’t save Mumbai Indians from another crushing defeat.

Returning to the XI for the first time since 2021, De Kock smashed an unbeaten 112 off 60 balls at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. His innings, decorated with eight fours and seven sixes, powered Mumbai to a strong 195/6.

The knock also marked a historic milestone-De Kock became one of the few players to score IPL centuries for three different franchises, reinforcing his reputation as one of the league’s most dependable match-winners.

He found solid support in Naman Dhir, who struck a well-made 50, as the pair stitched together a crucial 122-run partnership. At one stage, Mumbai looked set to cross the 200-run mark before a late bowling surge from Punjab altered the course of the game. More details with Khelstake article below:

Arshdeep’s Comeback and Ponting’s Influence

The turning point came through Arshdeep Singh, who produced a brilliant spell when it mattered most.

Finishing with three wickets, Arshdeep not only halted Mumbai’s momentum but also showcased a dramatic return to form. His resurgence, he revealed, came after a crucial conversation with head coach Ricky Ponting.

Ponting’s calming approach-urging the pacer to trust his rhythm rather than overthink-proved decisive. Alongside him, Marco Jansen provided valuable support, while a sharp fielding effort led by captain Shreyas Iyer resulted in the key dismissal of Hardik Pandya.

What looked like a 210-plus total was eventually contained under 200-an effort that laid the foundation for Punjab’s chase.

Punjab’s Batting Firepower Takes Over

If Mumbai had the early advantage, Punjab Kings quickly turned the game into a one-sided contest.

The chase began explosively, with Punjab smashing 21 runs in the opening over. Although Allah Ghazanfar struck twice to momentarily slow things down, the momentum never truly shifted.

Prabhsimran Singh led the charge with a breathtaking unbeaten 80 off just 39 balls. Dropped early by Jasprit Bumrah, he made Mumbai pay with a fearless display of attacking cricket.

At the other end, skipper Shreyas Iyer continued his outstanding run, scoring a composed half-century-his third in as many matches. Together, the duo added 139 runs in just 67 deliveries, effectively sealing the match.

Even after Iyer’s dismissal, the result was never in doubt, as Marcus Stoinis applied the finishing touches to complete the chase with ease.
