Chutney is an Indian-style dip that is used with staple cuisines. There are different types of chutneys with various ingredients and flavours to amp up the taste of the food. In fact, chutneys are so lip-smacking that they can add taste to even basic and simple food.

If you are looking for unique and amazing ways of using your jar of homemade chutney, let’s have a look at some ideas:

Alongside curries

This one is a no-brainer. You can serve the delicious chutney with any of the vegetarian or non-vegetarian curries. This is a basic and age-old use of chutney, and in fact, it was made to complement curries.

The party spread

Most of the parties have munching and cracker snacks that are served with scrumptious dips and sauces. Your good old chutney can be one of the dips alongside them. It can be an appetizing dip, and your guests would love to devour it.

You can serve it with a block of cream cheese and put chutney over it along with some crackers. Alternatively, you can blend some chutney and cream cheese together and serve it as a dip along with nachos and chips.

Sandwiches

If you are someone who likes to add flavours to their sandwiches, chutneys can be your trusted partners. Mix equal amounts of chutney and mayonnaise together. Spread it over the bread slices and add the ingredients of your choice. Chutney goes well with veggies and cheese.

Chutney toast

Just like you spread guacamole on your bread, you can make your own chutney version of the same. Add finely chopped onions, tomatoes, capsicum, and cucumber in a bowl. Pour some mayonnaise and chutney over it along with gourmet condiments such as pepper, chilli flakes, and oregano. Mix them well and spread them over your crispy toast. Isn’t it a healthy and flavourful breakfast option?

Cheese chutney sandwich

If you wish to go simple or run out of time, you can make a simple sandwich with cheese and chutney. Spread chutney over the bread slices and grate some cheese over them. You can have the delicious sandwich as it is or grill it for the perfect melted cheese.

Roasted meat

If you are a fan of roasted meat, chutney can be a perfect dip for enhancing the flavours of your dish. Chutney goes well with lip-smacking flavours of lamb, duck, and other meats. You can serve the chutney on the side with roasted meat or spread a little chutney over the meat while serving. The chutney will add flavour to the meat.

Tempura dip

Mix a tablespoon of chutney with 1 teaspoon of soy sauce, ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger, 1 tablespoon mirin, 1/4th cup chicken/ fish/ vegetable stock. This dip can be served hot with tempura. You can mix the ingredients and heat them in a small saucepan to make it a slightly chunky sauce. You can puree the ingredients in a blender before heating them.

Instant homemade ketchup

A lot of ingredients are common in both chutneys and ketchup, such as vinegar, sugar, spices, fruits, and vegetables. Unlike popular conception, ketchup doesn’t always need to be made with tomatoes. Chutney is chunky with ketchup is smooth. Your chutney can very well be your new ketchup.

Use for marinating

If you are a meat lover, you know how important it is to marinate the meat for adding lip-smacking flavour to it. Puree the chutney in a blender and add 2-3 tablespoons of water for a runny consistency. Use the puree for marinating the meat and poultry before roasting.

Chutney dip

Combine equal parts of salsa sauce and chutney with fresh cilantro/parsley in a blender. Blend only till the chutney is left with a texture. It should not be too smooth or chunky. Add some salt to taste and serve the dip with nachos or tortilla chips.

Roasted sweet potatoes

Preheat your oven to 400 F/ 204 C. Scrub the sweet potatoes to make, then clean. Chop them into chunks. Now spread parchment paper in the roasting pan. Combine veggies and chutney in a big bowl and add some chutney based on the quantity of the veggies. Transfer the veggies into the roasting pan and spread to form an even layer. Roast for 30-40 minutes so that the potatoes become tender. This is a delicious and healthy food item.

Apart from the above-mentioned delicious ways, you can also come up with your own recipes and innovative ideas for using the good old humble chutney. You can order your favourite chutney jar online and preserve it for some days while you try delectable dishes. The homemade chutney is a must-have in your kitchen to add amazing flavours to recipes.
