South Korean figure skating hopeful Shin Jia (Youngdongjoong) won the second round of the International Ice Skating Union (ISU) Figure Junior Grand Prix.

Shin earned a technical score of 69.42 and a composite score of 61.53 for a total of 130.95 points in the free skate at the event held in Linz, Austria, 한국야동 on Feb. 2 (KST).

Combined with her short program score of 70.38 for a total of 201.33, Shinjia won her first international event of the season by 32.96 points over second-place Haruna Murakami of Japan.

Shin was the only athlete in the competition to score over 200 points. However, she was unable to improve on her previous best score of 206.01.

Starting her free skate to the song “Not about angels” by British singer Birdie, Shin put on a clean performance, but her landing on her second half triple flip was shaky, costing her 1.06 GOE points, and her subsequent double axel to triple lutz was ruled a quarter landing (when the rotation of the jump falls short of the 90-degree level), costing her 0.59 GOE points.

After the competition, Shin will travel to Japan to continue her training and will compete in the fifth edition of the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series in Budapest, Hungary on September 20-23.
