Internet providers facilitate students

Unfortunately, about 3 million students do not have unlimited wireless Internet access at home. Because the cost is too high and there is no availability. That means many students don't have the opportunity to further their education. School districts and some of the best Internet providers have teamed up to give students access to their virtual classrooms. After COVID-19 forced the nation's schools to go online, thousands of districts sought partnerships with ISPs to cover the cost of broadband connections for low-income students.

The result was a patchwork of temporary agreements that connected millions of families, often through innovative public-private partnerships. Internet providers and governments are doing something unprecedented in this crisis to make free unlimited wireless internet access for students. Moreover, discounted Internet options for students and low-income households.

Places offering free internet Access

Educational Institutions

Many schools are doing what they can to support online instruction for their students. Some districts are deploying Wi-Fi-enabled school buses that park in various neighbourhoods to provide Internet access to students in the area. Some school districts partner with wireless carriers to provide students with LTE-enabled tablets or mobile hotspots, and most colleges offer unlimited wireless internet to their students. So if you need to get some work done and can't get online at home, all you need to do is find a workspace or other room on campus where you can work comfortably. Most universities have special computer labs for students if they need access to a computer.

Libraries

Check out your local library if you're looking for the most welcoming place for free unlimited wireless internet. Most are accessible for free in the lobby or inside the library (often, there are benches, chairs, or even desks, usually with outlets nearby), but some don't offer the service or require a library card.

Public Transport

Many trains, buses, and other modes of transportation offer free Internet to passengers. Check with your local government to see if public transit in your area offers unlimited wireless internet at transit centres and on buses and trains. National transit agencies such as Amtrak, Megabus, and Boltbus also offer unlimited wireless internet.

Internet providers facilitate students

AT&T

AT&T is working with participating K-12 schools and colleges to provide 60 days of free wireless data through school-provided 4G LTE and hotspot devices. Most households that do not have broadband Internet service are within these wireless signals.

AT&T also has an Internet program for low-income households called Access from AT&T. New subscribers who qualify receive two months of free service. Eligible individuals are those who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), National School Lunch (NSLP), Head Start Program, or receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

Xfinity

Specifically, for students, Xfinity offers new customers a prepaid Visa gift card worth $150 (which covers about two months of service). The offer includes free self-installation and no upfront fees. The gift card will be issued a few weeks after enrollment and installation, so you may have to pay for the two months upfront and then receive a refund. To participate in the promotion, you must prove that you are a student by uploading relevant documents, and you must be a new customer.

Xfinity offers two months of free Internet service to those who qualify for the Internet Essentials package. This program is for people with limited income-eligible for public assistance such as Medicaid, SSI, NSLP, Housing Assistance, and others. Speeds will be increased to 25 Mbps for all who have the Internet Essentials package.

Spectrum

Spectrum offers one of the best deals, as they offer 60 days of free broadband and Wi-Fi (up to 100 Mbps) for households with K-12 or college students. Especially those who do not currently have Spectrum service. Installation and prepayment fees are not charged. Offer applies to new customers only and is provided as a credit for the first two months of service.
