Mr. Amit Kumar Mishra (IFS: 2004), a native of Darbhanga in Bihar’s Mithila region, has been appointed India’s next Ambassador to Georgia. Currently at the Ministry of External Affairs headquarters, he is expected to assume his new role shortly. This appointment is a proud moment for Darbhanga and Mithila region.

A seasoned diplomat of the 2004 batch of Indian Foreign Service, Mr. Mishra brings over two decades of experience in international relations, consular affairs, and policy-making. His journey from Darbhanga to the global diplomatic stage is a source of inspiration for aspiring civil servants across the region.

His early postings in Egypt and Saudi Arabia gave him firsthand experience of West Asian geopolitics. Assignments in Brazil and Australia broadened his expertise in economic diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and multicultural engagement, while a challenging stint in Afghanistan tested his resilience and leadership under pressure.

At the Ministry of External Affairs in India, Mr. Mishra has handled a wide range of responsibilities. In the North Division, he dealt with sensitive neighbourhood diplomacy involving Nepal and Bhutan. In the OIA (Overseas Indian Affairs) Division, he worked to protect the interests of the Indian diaspora and strengthen India’s global human connect. In the AMS (Americas) Division, he contributed to shaping relations with one of India’s most strategically important regions.

As Ambassador to Georgia, Mr. Mishra is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties, including strategic cooperation, trade and investment, cultural exchange, and diaspora engagement.

Over the past 22 years, his diverse postings and high-profile assignments have honed his diplomatic skills, making him well-equipped to advance India’s interests abroad. His achievements add another distinguished chapter to Darbhanga’s legacy of producing accomplished administrators and intellectuals, inspiring the next generation from Mithila to reach for global leadership.
