It’s time for family & loved ones when you decide on a vacation to the Helambu region because of the lovely naturalness of mother nature that’s so encompassing in this area. It becomes the elixir to bonding the love that is so essential for family & home.

Helambu Trekking is a favorite venture for most trekkers who just want to get lost from the ornamental world of materialistic pursuits & seek a hideaway in some of the most naturally beautiful wilderness on the planet, easily accessible, the trekking trails in the Langtang Helambu region are a virtual gateway to paradise on earth.

Trekking in the Helambu area offers an opportunity to explore ancient villages, and a wide range of animals that include musk deer, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan Thar, Ghoral, Rhesus monkey, and the common langur. Subsequently, one also can enjoy gasping scenic views of the mountains - Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishanker, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa Ri, Gangchenpo, and the Annapurna Himalaya range and enjoy the cultural blends of Tibetan Sherpas & other communities that live in peace & harmony with one another in this naturally peaceful zone that pacifies even the wild fauna to live in tandem with humans who share the wild with them.

Helambu trekking also includes a trip to the remote and spectacular valley of the region. Helambu trek is relatively low-altitude hiking and is considered to be one of the best areas for enjoying a short trek, as it is close to the capital of Kathmandu. The trek in the area lies mostly at a low altitude below 3000m, & the high point is Tharepati at (3480m).

Helambu Trekking begins from Sundarijal, which is a one and half hour drive from Kathmandu. We trek up to a straight hill and descend around 45 minutes till we get to Chisapani. This is a very beautiful and green village that is flushed with vegetation, & from hereabouts, we can get panoramic mountain views of the whole Annapurna range, the Tibet Himalayas, & the wide Langtang range of mountains. We continue our trek to Kutumsang & then Tharepati, from there we head on to Tarkegyang and Melamchi Bazaar and drive back to Kathmandu.

Helambu Trek- 10 Days Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport and transfer to the hotel

It’s a scenic thrill as you fly into Kathmandu & get your first glimpses of some of the highest mountains in the world, right from the windows of your jet. You will be met at the airport by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Refresh & get familiar with your surroundings.

Day 02: Full day cultural sightseeing of Kathmandu valley

After having breakfast, we proceed on a sightseeing tour in the Kathmandu Valley. This includes Kathmandu Durbar Square, Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath Temple, and Baudhanath Stupa.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal and trek to Chisapani

We start our trekking with a drive to Sundarijal and start trekking up to Chisapani by gently ascending through the Shivapuri Watershed and National Park (the Youngest National Park in Nepal).

The first settlement we will come across is Mulkharka with Tamang inhabitants as the route then heads to the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisapani at (2300m.).

Day 04: Trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang

Today, the trail descends for a short time and starts ascending as we cross lovely green meadows and fields. You will then descend through Pathi Bhanjyang till Gul Bhanjyang. The trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjyang to another pass at 2620m. The meadow makes it a good camping spot, it's downhill to Kutumsang at 2470m, in a saddle atop the ridge.

Day 05: Trek from Kutumsang to Tharepati Pass

The trek continues north up the Yurin Danda ridge and affords views of the beautiful Himalayan peaks. The trail climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where there are no permanent settlements.

This climb also marks a change somewhat in the character of the trek, from the warm, terraced, and populated 'middle hills' to the higher, and wonderfully cooler, 'temperate' and 'sub-alpine' zones. By the time we reach the top of the climb, we are in amongst rhododendrons and conifers. We cross a prayer flag bedecked pass and descend into a new landscape of meadows, streams, and dark woods. The trail then descends to Magen Goth and climbs to Ghorepani.

Day 06: Trek from Tharepani to Tarkeghyang

We start our trekking after having a hot breakfast at Tharepati; the first part is descending to a stream named Melamchi.

Now, we trek gently up to Tarkeghyang passing through Sherpa settlements. Tarkeghyang is a beautiful Sherpa village with one of the oldest and biggest monasteries. Tarkeghyang, also known as Helambu is named after the Helmu tribe that originated from Tibet.

Day 07: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Shermathang

Today, the trail is quite easier through flat land with beautiful forests on the way. We trek on crossing some small streams as we hike forward to our next destination. In-between our trail, there is a beautiful village half way to Shermathang.

Shermathang is another pretty Sherpa village where you can visit several ancient monasteries & sip some butter tea with the lamas, and we will also see the Jugal Himal range from the north face of Shermathang village.

Day 08: Trek from Shermathang to Melamchi Pul Bazaar

The trail gradually descends to Melamchi Pul Bazaar through meadows and cultivated fields of veggies & pulses.

We come across several old villages with their particular tradition. Today’s walking is no rush & we simply move at our own relaxed pace as we enjoy the mountain views and interact with the local folks as we near the end of our trek. We learn a lot of interesting things from these simple living mountain folks who live all their lives on these mountains.

Day 09: Drive from Melamchi Pul Bazaar to Kathmandu

We start our journey after having breakfast at about 8 AM and we will reach Kathmandu after about 6 hours of pleasant Driving through the beautiful fertile countryside. We’ve enjoyed much of our holiday as our thoughts turn to a hot shower & a clean hotel bed. Overnight at Hotel BB

Day 10: Transfer to the international airport for your flight home
