Ask three suppliers for a home lift quote in Bangalore and you will get three very different numbers. That is rarely because one is overcharging. It is because "home lift" covers a wide range of machines, and most quotes cover a different scope of work.
Here is what really moves the price.
Drive type
The biggest single factor. A hydraulic lift runs on a piston and a power pack. A gearless traction lift uses a small motor at the top of the shaft, with no machine room.
They suit different homes. Hydraulic copes well with a shallow pit and low headroom, and traction uses less power over more floors. Neither is always cheaper, so pick on site conditions first and budget second.
Floors and load
Each extra floor adds rails, a door, wiring and labour.
Size matters too. A lift built for three people and a lift built for a wheelchair user are not the same machine with a bigger badge — they are different machines. If access is the reason you are buying, say so early — it changes the cabin and the door width.
Civil work
This is where budgets break. The shaft, the pit, waterproofing and the power supply are usually your job, not the supplier's, and many quotes leave them out.
The shaft is a real cost of its own. Concrete, a steel frame, or fitting the lift into an existing stairwell are three different jobs at three different prices. Settle that with your architect first.
Pit depth and headroom depend on the model you buy, so take them from its GA drawing, never from a number you found online. Get that drawing before anyone pours concrete.
Doors and finish
Doors are easy to overlook. An automatic door costs more than a manual one, and you need one at every floor, so the choice multiplies.
The cabin does the same. Glass, steel, wood, lighting. Easy to upgrade, and the most common reason a final bill beats the first quote.
Power supply
Voltage swings are a known cause of controller failures in homes, and the controller is the costliest electronic part in the system.
Ask what surge protection is included, and whether your area needs a stabilizer. It is cheap insurance.
Ask what is included
Tax. Lift supply and fitting is taxed at 18% (SAC 995466), so ask whether the quote includes it.
ARD. The auto rescue device brings the cabin to the nearest floor in a power cut. Do not assume it is standard — confirm it in writing.
Rules. Lifts in Bangalore fall under the Karnataka Lifts Act, and IS 17900 has been the Indian standard for lift work since December 2025. License and test records are your job as the owner.
The number people ask for
Plan for ₹8 lakh and up. That buys a standard home lift, before civil work, finish and tax.
A much lower quote usually means a smaller scope, not a better deal, so read what it leaves out.
Cost after day one
A home lift should last 15–20 years, and how well it is serviced decides which end of that you get.
Budget for a service contract from the start. Check whether it is comprehensive, meaning parts are covered, or semi-comprehensive, meaning you pay for them. Ask what response time it promises, and whether spares are held in the city.
So: get the GA drawing, get the exclusions in writing, and compare quotes on the same scope.
