If you want to grow your brand and get more YouTube views, it's important to understand how the platform counts them. This is especially true if you're trying to monetize your videos or get them featured on the YouTube homepage or in trending searches. YouTube has a system that meticulously and smartly tracks viewing to provide creators and users with a more realistic view of the impact of their content.

How Are YouTube Views Determined?
YouTube has strict rules about what qualifies as a view. To count as a view, the video must be watched by a human for at least 30 seconds. This is to help prevent viewers from "spamming" the platform by jumping from video to video without spending any time watching any of them. YouTube also takes into account how long a viewer stays on a video's page. This is to help prevent spamming by bots that are used to drive up a video's numbers.

The YouTube algorithm also validates each new view to ensure that it was watched by a real person. This can take some time, particularly for popular videos that are getting a lot of views very quickly. This is why a video's view count sometimes appears to be stuck at 300, or even lower. YouTube employees are manually checking each and every view to make sure that the number is accurate.

Embedded YouTube videos that play automatically on websites don't count as views, either, because they are not watched by humans. The same goes for malware (a computer program that assists in sending spam messages) and spambots, which are automated programs that send out tons of junk comments to a video's comment section. YouTube's security software has the ability to detect these types of fake views and remove them from a video's view count to speed up the screening process.  youtube views
