People who have been working hard since really early in life have put premature pressure on their bodies. Because of this, there are some visibly physical effects that are bound to happen. One such thing that expresses the body\'s state of overwork is varicose or spider veins.

Varicose veins are the bulging of the veins near the lower leg area. They get swollen in specific places, turn dark because of clotting. These veins may also get twisted in some places.

Diagnosing varicose veins

There is one strict procedure to diagnose varicose veins. Nor are there any scans that one can undergo to diagnose it. Hence, its identification becomes more of an observation.

The veins do not appear suddenly overnight. It develops slowly and gradually, over time. So, paying attention to your body is the key to notice it early. Initially, there might be mild pain. There can also be faint veins, which can start getting darker in colour with passing time. There is a tendency to not notice varicose veins, especially in those with darker skin.

Varicose veins are possible to notice and diagnose early. You simply have to be cognizant of the changes that happen in the colour of the veins.

Treating varicose veins

The treatment for varicose veins generally involves massive lifestyle changes. Only in rare instances are surgical interventions involved. A doctor vein specialist starts by prescribing measures towards making one’s blood circulation regular in the lower leg area. Only in severe cases, surgical methods are used.

Spider veins

They are a more advanced version of varicose veins. The major characteristic of spider veins is the web-like structure. Spider veins rarely turn the structure that they form with blood vessels on the lower leg area. They may or may not hurt but there is a tingling sensation because of the twisting of the veins. What makes spider veins different from varicose veins is that they are most often harmless.

They do not hurt constantly, nor is there any other sensation where you find the veins. But if you have been standing in the same manner fora long time, or exerting your lower leg area, they can start painting ever so mildly.

Treating spider veins

Although spider veins are harmless, they may start paining every time you work for long hours. Hence, it becomes important to pay attention to them and the treatment. The treatment of spider veins involves multiple steps. Here are some of them:

  1. Exercise

There are a specific set of exercises that are focused on improving blood circulation in the leg region. Workouts with a mixture of cardiovascular exercise and functional circuits are believed to work well for this.

Apart from these exercises, a regular habit of walking at regular speed or brisk walking should be developed over time to avoid the development of varicose veins again.

  1. External resources like ointments

Some doctors and vein specialists prescribe external resources like ointments and massage oils to get relief from the pain. These are effective in reducing swelling as well as pain. They are usually prescribed along with exercise to achieve better recovery.

  1. Lifestyle changes

Lifestyle changes like altering one’s work timings, the position when at work, the material of the clothing, and the footwear would be required to cure spider veins.

  1. Surgical interventions

These include vascular surgery in Bangalore and are only administered in severe cases.

It is very rare that spider veins turn severe. However, if it were to turn severe, there is a possibility of extreme pain and grim chances of bleeding as well. At this point, a surgery called sclerotherapy is performed to pull out the veins that have started swelling and twisting.

If identified early and pulled out in time, one can get rid of the pain. At some other times though, the veins are pulled out at an early stage so that they do not turn into twisted veins over time. There is also vascular surgery in Bangalore that is performed using laser and would not require hospitalization.

Varicose veins can easily be prevented with self-care and being cognizant about body changes. To learn more about precautionary measures to prevent and/or remove varicose veins, visit our teams at VascularCentre.
