Innings Break time is the time given to both of the teams when the 1st inning is over of a match and a target has been set to score. Both of the teams recover as well as strategise their game for the 2nd innings to win the game. Here we will tell you about the rules and time limit of innings break time for different formats of cricket.
Innings break time in ODI cricket is set to be of 45 minutes long and it can vary depending on various factors like:
If in the first inning there is a loss of 60 minutes then the break is set to be of 30 minutes. If the first inning loses 120 minutes of playing time then the break will be reduced to 20 minutes. If the loss of time in first innings exceeds 120 minutes then the break is reduced even more that gives only 10 minutes of innings break. In World Cup also the same rules of ODI innings break are followed by 45 minutes of innings break but if 60 minutes of time is lost then the break is reduced to 30 minutes.
In Test Cricket, there are four innings that have to be played in a single match so the innings break depends on the circumstances.
If the captain declares the innings or last wicket falls when 10 minutes or less than 10 minutes remaining in tea break, then the innings break will be of 40 minutes including both breaks. If the captain declares the innings or last wicket falls when 30 minutes or less than 30 minutes remain in tea break, then the innings and tea break will be of 20 minutes and game will resume after it. If Innings is declared or the last wicket falls with 10 minutes or less than 10 minutes remaining in the day off then the game will resume on next day.
IN T20I, here matches are only 3 hours long so the innings break is set to be of 20 minutes and then the 2nd innings is started after break.
So the innings break is generally set for every format but it mostly depends on the circumstances of that time.
