CBD now seems to be pervasive.
It can be found in both petrol stations and chain pharmacies. Within a 15-minute stroll of the White House, at least four eateries provide CBD coffee.
Yet there's an odd aspect about the sudden popularity of these goods: It's against the law to sell them. That's accurate despite the fact that the 2018 Farm Bill lifted the prohibitions on CBD if it comes from hemp plants.
Equally bizarre is the fact that purchasing CBD products is occasionally lawful.
The long history of cannabis use and prohibition in America includes numerous paradoxes. Cannabis, like marijuana, has been used for medical purposes, such as to combat the negative effects of cancer chemotherapy, as well as a tool for relaxation and as part of mass incarceration.
At the University of Connecticut, which introduced the country's only collegiate course on marijuana cultivation earlier this year, two instructors are working with their students to better grasp this tension.
According to Gerry Berkowitz, a 20-year professor of plant science and co-director of UConn's new course, "there are all kinds of classes to train lawyers to understand cannabis law and programs for medical practitioners to learn how to dispense medical marijuana," but this is the first course in decades to concentrate on questions like:

The sails used to transport European colonists over a large portion of the known world were constructed from hemp. Its significance to the foundations of America was such that it was immortalised on currency. However, George Washington had a terrible reputation for producing hemp.
In August 1765, Washington wrote in his diary, "Began to separate the Male from the Female hemp...rather too late." (We'll explain later why that's an issue.)
Since then, there has been a considerable change in the perception of cannabis, from essential resource to social ill to possibly somewhere in between.
The UConn course, "Horticulture of Cannabis: from Seed to Harvest," was created by Berkowitz and professor Matthew DeBacco in response to a pressing need in the rapidly expanding cannabis market, with projected U.S. sales of $80 billion by 2030. Another of Berkowitz's undergraduate students visited a Connecticut medical marijuana grow on a field trip three years ago.
According to the owner, his head grower learnt their trade by cultivating marijuana in their basement, according to Berkowitz. He wasn't attempting to disparage these workers when he brought this up; instead, he was highlighting how many of the growing techniques used in the marijuana sector aren't usually standardised or supported by science.

What is marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana are two examples of the various names, strains, and types of cannabis. But today, they are all regarded as belonging to the same species: Cannabis sativa.
