Eltrombopag is the generic name for the trade name drug Promacta. In some cases, health care professionals may use the trade name, Promacta, when referring to the generic drug name, eltrombopag.

What Eltrombopag Is Used For

This drug is used to stimulate the growth and development of platelets in the bone marrow.

Trombopag Tablets are used for patients with low platelet levels who also have the condition of aplastic anemia, chronic immune thrombocytopenia, or chronic hepatitis C-associated thrombocytopenia.

Note: If a drug has been approved for one use, physicians may elect to use this same drug for other problems if they believe it may be helpful.
