Model airplanes are flying or non-flying models of existing or imaginary aircraft. They have usually scaled versions of full-size aircraft, made from a variety of materials such as foam, polystyrene, balsa, and fiberglass.
Designs range from simple gliders to accurate scale models that can be very large. Models can be built while flying or not and the construction techniques of both are very different from each other.

Static Model Aircraft - this is a scale model of an aircraft that is enclosed in plastic, metal, wood, or paper. Some of the static models have been scaled for wind tunnels, where the data acquired can be used to help design full-scale aircraft.

Promotional purposes - most airlines allow their aircraft to be used as models for advertising. In the past, airlines ordered large models of their aircraft and provided them to travel agencies for promotional items.

Model Aircraft

There are three groups of model aircraft:

(a) Free flight models - aircraft that fly without being attached to the ground. This model predates the work of the Wright brothers and other founders.

b) Control line model - this aircraft uses cables (usually two) running from the wings to the pilot. A variation of this system is the pole flight model.

c) Radio-controlled aircraft - this aircraft has a transmitter operated by the pilot on the ground, which transfers signals to the aircraft's receiver.

Many flying models resemble a reduced form of a manned aircraft, while others were built without the intention of resembling a manned aircraft. In addition, there are bird models as well as flying dinosaurs.

glider - is an aircraft that looks like a plane without a motor. The largest outdoor glider models are normally radio controlled and rise against the wind by means of a rope connected to the hook under the fuselage by means of a ring so that the rope drops when the glider is overhead. Other methods include launching catapults.
