Depression is so commonly spoken about that we can recognize it when we see it. The words, ‘Clinical depression’ are known to refer to a mental health challenge, which negatively affects everything an individual does. There are psychological, social, and biological causes of this illness.
In a season and in a world where mental health care is broadcasted as a priority, people run away from any little indication that would cause them to slip into this mental state. Diagnostic laboratory services are also used to determine people’s current health state.
This illness could affect mood changes, sleep patterns, eating, thinking, relating with people around, productivity, self-esteem, or worse bring thoughts of suicide.
Isn’t it strange that some random illness would come upon you and causes your enjoyable life to turn around for bad? The things you once liked, begin to irritate you. You feel you need to withdraw from yourself, and the more you do that, the more you get damaged.
Main Causes of Depression:
Here are some major causes:
Family problems: One of the major causes in the world is some form of family disconnect. Family and marital problems spell damages for everyone. Children who grow up in these homes have a higher risk of suffering from depression. Partners from abusive relationships can easily slip into depression.
Occupational Stress: Stress from the second place you spent most hours of the day could eat one up. Some of this stress is caused by work conflict, an abusive boss, or feeling inadequate at work. In many toxic workplaces, the employees are just trying to make ends meet, or staying there for some other purpose, but the experience could leave a scar-DEPRESSION.
Health Problems: Some illnesses could lead to depression. Also, the genes of some people could carry down traits of depression. Some drugs are known to cause depression when taken
Personal problems: Aging can result in some form of illness like depression. A detachment from most people one is familiar with as they lose them can result in depression. A lack of social interaction results in depression symptoms. People having trouble coping often come down to being depressed.
Types of Depression
Medical practitioners like to define things, and they have categorized the different cases of depression. These include:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): This is what is commonly referred to as a clinical depression. The feeling of sadness and withdrawal would last for more than two weeks.
Bipolar Depression: This manifests in alternating moods. The victim can be filled with extreme energy one minute, and sad and weak, the next.
Psychotic Depression: This is usually manifested by hallucinations or delusions. Sometimes, this would manifest in a particular hour of the day or be triggered when they see certain people or things.
Persistent Depressive Disorder: The symptoms in this type of depression are similar to clinical depression, but it lasts longer than two years.
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): This is an acute case of Premenstrual Disorder (PMS). Women in the weeks before their menstrual period are affected.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): This usually starts in winter or fall and goes away in spring or summer.
Remedies to Depression:
Self-help is encouraging yourself to engage in physical exercises, counseling classes, reading help books, etc Sometimes, you just need a breath of fresh air in an environment where you feel safe.
Medical help is when antidepressants are introduced. If the illness is caused by some form of illness, that causing illness can be treated. In this case, one cannot escape diagnostic laboratory services.
Counseling by meeting people who are trained or have a track record. This is also called psychotherapy. Trained therapists in this area know how to approach the problem. In cases of psychotic depression, some therapists could make the victim undergo some form of hallucination to rewrite the previous experiences. Talking to someone is some form of relief, more so if it is someone trained for this purpose.
Conclusion:
Depression may sound like a pandemic, but it is solvable. But we need to work together (everyone) to create a non-toxic environment in our homes, workplaces, and other public places. It would do good to make the world a better place.
