The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) has introduced key changes to the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination, making it more accessible and relevant to modern educational standards. These updates will enhance the exam process, including more frequent sittings, revised eligibility for reattempts, and changes to the exam structure and content.

New October 2024 PEBC Exam Sitting

To meet the growing demand for exam opportunities, PEBC will offer an additional sitting for the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination in October 2024. Starting in 2025, there will be four sittings per year, ensuring quicker access to the exam after completing the Document Evaluation phase.

Eligibility Criteria for Reattempts Updated

PEBC has also updated the eligibility rules for reattempting the PEBC Evaluating Exam. Candidates who do not pass the June 2024 exam will have to wait until January 2025 to retake it, allowing adequate time for preparation and aligning with the release of exam results.

Shortened Exam Length Starting October 2024

In a bid to improve the efficiency of the examination, PEBC has reduced the number of questions from 200 to 150. This change, effective in October 2024, shortens the exam duration to about three hours, without compromising the reliability of the exam results.

Updated Exam Blueprint to Align with PharmD Programs

As Canadian pharmacy programs transition to entry-level PharmD degrees, PEBC is updating the exam blueprint to align with these new standards. These changes will be implemented no earlier than June 2025. Further analysis may lead to additional reductions in exam length.

Key Dates and Application Details

These changes reflect PEBC’s commitment to enhancing the exam experience and supporting aspiring pharmacists. For more details on dates, fees, and updates, candidates should visit the PEBC website.

This update to the PEBC exam in Canada is designed to provide a more streamlined and effective examination process, benefiting both candidates and the pharmacy profession.
