Introduction
Collagen induction therapy (CIT), commonly known as skin needling micro-needling, is a procedure that has gained popularity among numerous celebrities across the world. The device we use for CIT is called SkinPen®, and for the sake of consistency, I’ll refer to this therapy as SkinPen throughout this article.
SkinPen at a glance
Let’s look at why SkinPen is better than other similar devices on the market.
It’s the first FDA-approved, TGA-registered, and ARTG-approved microneedling device, and it’s only available in medical skin clinics.
Because SkinPen is created in the United States and extensively tested for quality and safety, you can be certain that you’re getting the finest treatment possible from a well-built and tested gadget.
SkinPen has been clinically shown to cure a variety of skin conditions, and you can see improvements in your look and general skin health as soon as three treatments, spaced four weeks apart, are completed.
Each treatment contains a sterile disposable needle cartridge, a disposable protective sleeve for the pen, and two post-treatment care items.
You might be wondering how SkinPen works.
How does SkinPen® work?
The SkinPen® cartridge has 14 needles that puncture the skin repeatedly and precisely, creating thousands of small micro-channels or micro-injuries.
As a result, your body’s natural wound-healing reaction is triggered.
So, what makes our skin’s reaction to controlled trauma so special?
I’ll go through everything in more detail below, but the ultimate outcome is essentially new skin tissue, new blood vessels, and an increase in collagen and elastin.
Wound-Healing Phases
Phase I — Inflammation
When your skin is punctured, your immune cells (also known as langerhan cells) are summoned to clean the area, remove debris, boost circulation, and begin the process of forming new skin tissue.
Phase II — Proliferation
At the wound site, granulation cells begin to produce, and new networks of finer blood vessels emerge.
Phase III — Remodeling
The wound begins to be replaced with new dermal tissue and blood vessels, resulting in the formation of fresh new skin!
Let’s speak about the outcomes and what SkinPen can cure now that we know how it works!
SkinPen can aid in the treatment of a variety of clinical conditions, and the fact that it promotes new collagen speaks for itself.
It’s great for individuals who don’t have anything big to worry about (such skin tightness, a lot of UV damage, or severe scarring), but wish to slow down the ageing process and concentrate on age management and prevention.
SkinPen, on the other hand, is suited for almost everyone and is safe for all skin types.
I’ve worked with a variety of clients of all ages at various phases of their skin journeys, and SkinPen has helped them all.
So, what more is there for me to do with SkinPen?
SkinPen is wonderful on its alone, but when paired with other treatments, the results are incredible!
Other types of modalities that can be mixed include, but are not limited to:
Chemical peels — are usually done in between SkinPen sessions, although they can also be done right before SkinPen (depending on peel type and skin concern). Exfoliation is aided.
Laser Genesis — comparable to a Chemical Peel, Laser Genesis may be done right before or after a SkinPen treatment.
Topical Mesotherapy Skin Booster, NCTF® boost — comprises a combination of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids, minerals, coenzymes, and antioxidants and is utilised as a transdermal administration during SkinPen.
Healite II L.E.D Therapy — Healite is the family’s unsung hero, and we like matching its soothing, revitalising light with SkinPen and, to be honest… everything!
Want to book in?
Yes, SkinPen is a therapy that is acceptable for almost everyone; nevertheless, skin preparation is essential for achieving best results and reducing the possibility of side effects.
Skin preparation, also known as priming, is the process of preparing your skin before starting your SkinPen adventure.
It entails employing cosmeceutical solutions that are tailored to your skin’s needs and problems, and which often have a high concentration of active ingredients that regulate the skin’s and melanocyte (pigment-producing cell) activity.
This is especially crucial for people who are prone to hyperpigmentation as a result of skin damage, inflammation, or UV exposure.
Preparing your skin 2 to 4 weeks before your first treatment is suggested, and products should be utilised throughout your SkinPen journey (except 2 days prior to treatment and 5 days post to allow for skin healing).
So, what does all of this mean?
Preparing your skin is similar to extending your muscles before a strenuous workout.
It lowers the risk of damage and bad responses while also ensuring that your results are at their best.
You may already be primed if you’re using the right products, and while we’re on the subject of skin prep and priming, it’s crucial to remember that utilising a tailored skin care regimen over time is the greatest way to slow down the ageing process and keep your skin healthy.
