Smart EV Scooters in India: Top Models with Touchscreen & App Control

The other day, I was stuck in Bangalore traffic (surprise!), and I watched the rider next to me casually swipe through his scooter's touchscreen to switch riding modes. No stopping, no fumbling with buttons, just a smooth swipe while cruising at 40 kmph. That's when it hit me: we've officially entered the smartphone era of two-wheelers.

Smart EV scooters aren't just about going electric anymore. They're becoming these connected devices that make your daily commute feel less like a chore and more like, well, riding into the future.

What Makes an EV Scooter "Smart"?

The definition has evolved beyond just having a digital display. Today's smart scooters come with touchscreen interfaces that actually respond while you're riding, comprehensive app integration that lets you control your scooter remotely, and features that would make your car jealous.

Take the VIDA, for instance. The V2 Plus and VX2 Plus models sport a 7-inch TFT touchscreen that auto-adjusts brightness based on sunlight; no more squinting at your display during those harsh afternoon rides. You can switch between Eco, Ride, and Sport modes with a simple swipe, and the screen changes colour to match your mood (or riding style).

But here's what I find genuinely useful: the app integration goes beyond basic stuff. You can lock or unlock your scooter remotely, track its location if you've forgotten where you parked (we've all been there), and even set up geo-fencing alerts. There's this SOS feature that sends emergency alerts, something that gives parents peace of mind when their kids are out exploring the city.

The Real-World Experience

The touchscreen experience while riding took some getting used to, I'll admit. Initially, I was sceptical about using touch controls while navigating traffic. But modern implementations are surprisingly intuitive. The VIDA's interface, for example, lets you change modes with either the handlebar button or screen swipe; both work whether you're moving or stationary.

One feature that's become a daily lifesaver is cruise control. Set your speed between 30 and 60 kmph, and you get this green confirmation icon. Perfect for those long stretches on the outer ring road. It disengages the moment you touch the throttle or brake, so safety isn't compromised.

The reverse assist feature deserves a mention, too. That two-way throttle makes parking in tight spots so much easier. No more awkward backing up or asking strangers to help push your scooter out of cramped parking spaces.

App Control: More Than Just a Gimmick

Initially, I thought app control was just a fancy addition. But after using it regularly, I realise how practical it can be. The ability to track your scooter's location through the app isn't just about security; it's incredibly handy when you're in a massive mall parking lot or at a crowded event.

The charging station locator is particularly useful. With over 4,600 free charging stations accessible through the app, range anxiety becomes less of an issue. You can scan QR codes at public charging points, and the app shows real-time battery status and charging progress.

What's interesting is how these apps are becoming trip analytics tools. You get insights into your riding patterns, energy consumption, and regenerative braking efficiency. It's like having a fitness tracker, but for your commute.

The Bigger Picture

Smart EV scooters represent more than just technological advancement; they're changing how we think about urban mobility. These features aren't just bells and whistles; they address real problems like range anxiety, security concerns, and the need for more efficient commuting.

The touchscreen and app integration make electric scooters more accessible to people who were hesitant about making the switch. When your scooter can guide you to the nearest charging station, send you maintenance reminders, and let you customise riding modes for different family members, the transition from petrol becomes less daunting.

As more manufacturers embrace these smart features, we're likely to see even more innovation. The future of two-wheelers in India is definitely electric, but more importantly, it's getting smarter by the day.

What smart features would you want in your next EV scooter?
