The Samoyed is a strong and hardworking breed. He’s bred to accomplish numerous tasks that challenge his skills and agility. In the olden days, Samoyed dogs were used to herd reindeer, haul sleds, and hunt prey. Samoyeds kept their owners warm by sleeping on top of them at night. Other duties include tracking and pack hiking. They were efficient and loyal workers of the Samoyedic people (also called Nenetsky).
The Nenetsky people are the known original breeders of the Samoyed breed. Because of their close interaction and companionship with people, the dogs developed their skills in properly interacting with humans (even children) and have become people-oriented throughout the years.
Today, Samoyed is known as an active and loving family companion. He’s good and has a jolly disposition. Some say this dog can be stubborn and strong-willed. But he remains gentle, devoted, and friendly. Samoyed sheds excessively, and having him as a pet means having stray hairs all over your home.
