Pharmaceutical companies use several different types of packaging materials to provide their customers with quality products and maintain their company image. These packages are used for everything from prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, medical devices, and dietary supplements.

This article will provide an overview of the various types of pharmaceutical packaging materials that are currently in use today. We'll discuss how each material has its own set of advantages to offer as well as some disadvantages. Finally, we'll list some important points about the most common forms of pharmaceutical packaging that you might come across on your next visit to your local pharmacy or drugstore.

Plastic Packaging Materials

There are many different forms of plastic used in packaging materials such as PE, PVC, and PET. These plastics are lightweight and flexible, which is why they're quite common in the packaging industry. They can also be clear or opaque depending on their thickness and the way they're made. These characteristics make them widely popular for all manner of containers, including bottles, jars, and bottles for liquids, powders, and even small containers that contain pills.

Some companies also use thermoplastic to form small blister packs or pods. The material will melt around the pill as it's being extracted from the pod to prevent it from becoming damaged before use. They can also be used to make fillings which are then inserted into capsules.

Most of these containers are made with the same plastic the food industry uses. This means that they have a low melting temperature and can be recycled by recycling centers if they're not needed any longer. All that is required when entering such recycling centers is to bring in the container and it will be scanned for its identifying properties so that it'll be taken away for processing at a later date.

If plastic packaging emits toxic fumes or harmful plastic-related chemicals as a result of being recycled, this can potentially pose an issue for the health of anyone nearby who may be exposed to them.

Medical packaging products

Different types of pharmaceutical packaging materials are Header Bags, Breather bags or ribbons Pouches, Aluminum Foil Pouches, Tyvek Pouches, and Tyvek Sterilization. Header bags are typically used for powders, tablets, and capsules. They have a zip-seal closure on top of the bag at the open end. The bag is available in various widths and lengths. Tyvek pouches are often considered a good substitute for polypropylene plastic because they are more environmentally friendly and make less noise when opened or closed.

Breather bags or Ribbon Pouches contain products that need oxygen to react properly, such as ointments or creams. Aluminum foil pouches can be found with a multitude of types of closures, such as heat seal, glue seal, zipper/tape/pencil tabs, fold seals, etc. They are made out of a thin layer of aluminum foil sandwiched between a paper or polyester film wrap and are used for a variety of products including liquids, powders, and solid pre-measured doses.

Tyvek Sterilization Pouches are thin Tyvek pouches that have been sealed by heat on the edges. They can be used for a wide variety of products, such as pills and tablets, vials and ampoules, syringes and syringe needles, etc., that require sterilization during transport. Tyvek pouches are available in various sizes.
