Learn How To Reset Your Airport Extreme

Resetting your Airport base station is for restoring the settings to a state that gives you the authority to regain control of it when you lost the base station password, or the base station is not responding. Based on the base station model, you can perform one or more types of resets.

Soft Reset: this reset the base station password and disabled the security for 5 minutes to join the network to make necessary changes. If you do not make changes within 5 minutes, the base station restores the former settings. You can perform this Reset if you cannot administer the base station as you forgot the password.

Factory-Default Reset: Like a hard reset, this one removes the saved configuration airport express and profiles. You can perform this Reset if you are selling or giving away your airport extreme.

How To Reset Airport Extreme?

Method 1: Soft Reset

Follow the steps given below to soft Reset your airport extreme. Make sure you read the instructions beforehand.

First, ensure that the base station is connected to power. Then press and hold the reset button for at least a second and release the button. The status light on the base station will flash amber.

From the Wi-Fi status menu, you need to choose the Wi-Fi network created by the base station.

Open the airport utility windowswhich are in the utility folder. Now, click the icon for your base station and then click Edit from the pop-up menu. When done, you need to click update.

Now, this was the method for soft Reset. If you want to choose a hard reset, then follow the steps mentioned below.

Method 2: Hard Reset

You can use the hard reset method for your airport extreme. Follow the steps given below.

It must be connected to the power. Now, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds till the status light on the base station flashes amber rapidly. Then you can release the button.

Now, you need to wait for a minute for the base station to finish restarting. Then open the Airport utility.

Select your base station from the list of Wi-Fi devices. Click Edit. Then click other options.

Click on restore previous settings. Then click next till you get to the final window. Click done.

For the factory reset, you must have firmware version 7.9.1 on airport time capsule 801.11ac and airport 802.11ac. Anyway, you already have the steps for the soft and hard Reset airport extreme.
