In the Indian market, the Renault Kiger is the French carmaker’s flagship offering, which falls under the mini SUV segment. It’s a sub-four-metre crossover SUV- built on Renault-Nissan’s in-house designed CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Triber. However, only three Renault cars are available on the Indian market: the Kwid, the Triber, and the Kiger. In the mini SUV bandwagon, the Renault Kiger squares off with the Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Citroen C3, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and the Kia Sonet. Moreover, it’s difficult to narrow down the options, as these vehicles offer overall practicality- a high ground clearance with a good number of features in an affordable price range. So, if you are planning to go for the subcompact mini SUV, below are a few things you should know about the Renault Kiger.
Specifications
Just so you know, the French carmaker doesn’t offer a diesel engine in the Indian market. As for the Renault Kiger specifications, this vehicle offers a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is tuned to churn out 71.01 bhp at 6250 rpm and 96 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm. At the same time, this vehicle also offers a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which pumps out 98.63 bhp at 5000 rpm and 160 Nm of peak torque at 3600 rpm. Speaking of engines, the 2023 manufactured cars now come with updated BS6 (Phase-2) units. You can check out the Renault Kiger news to know more.
As far as the transmission options are concerned, both engines are available in the standard five-speed manual and optional automatic units. Further, the AMT gearbox is exclusive to the naturally-aspirated engine, while the CVT unit is exclusive to the turbo-petrol engine.
Irrespective of the engine and transmission combination, the Renault Kiger stores fuel in its 40-litre fuel tank.
Now, the main bit: the fuel efficiency. The Renault Kiger’s ARAI-certified mileage ranges from 18.24 km/l to 20.5 km/l, depending upon the engine and transmission combination. But, as you may expect, the real mileage is different from the certified mileage figures. In the naturally-aspirated engine variant, the manual and AMT versions return 15 km/l, while in the turbo-petrol variant, the manual and CVT units return 14.8 km/l and 14.0 km/l, respectively. However, you can check out the Kiger’s price to select the variant as per your budget.
Please note that these real-world mileage figures are as per the feedback from the owners. In addition, it is also worth noting that these figures can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ driving styles.
Apart from the engine output, the Renault Kiger’s suspension setup shouldn’t let you lament the ride quality. This locally produced subcompact crossover SUV is stabled by MacPherson Strut with Lower Transverse Link at the front and a Twist Beam with Coil Spring at the rear. As mentioned earlier, this vehicle shouldn’t let you complain about rideability, as Renault has understood the conditions of Indian roads pretty well. Having said that, this vehicle should absorb the bumps from potholes easily. That automatically translates to making long journeys within the country. Further, this suspension setup works in tandem with a standard disc-drum setup. And, you will find this disc-drum brakes setup behind the standard 16-inch steel rims and an optional alloy wheel. However, the tyre profile is the same across the variants, which is 195/60 R16.
