They tell you that you’re special. That you can conquer the world if only you set your mind to it. They tell you to believe in yourself no matter what.
But do they really want us to?
It’s almost conspiratorial how they want you to stand out of the crowd only to ostracize and control you. The only part of yourself they want you to believe in is your insecurities. And you revel in them, grow in them until you find yourself in a place that is toxic not only for yourself but the people you love.
For we are born into this world.
For we are born into the conservative, without our will.
Let’s discuss the cons of living in a conservative society.
Bryan, a cis-gendered man lost among the crowd of conformers, finds himself in a predicament – a choice between love and the rest of the world. Let’s delve deep into the hardships he and many others like him may face to understand better the hardships set by conservatism.
The Cakewalk
We’re born into this world.
Now what?
Who are we really here for?
How can one live a cakewalk? All their life, they’ve been marching on a journey where people have taken their happiness, sense of self-worth, and ultimately, self-worth and identity.
We think we’re living for ourselves. Yet, we walk among the very conformers we so despise. It isn’t all easy. Fear shrouds you, the fear of being judged, the overwhelming terror of being exploited and ridiculed in front of many.
And so, we closet.
We hide from the truth that stares right back at us each time we look in the mirror. The literal and the metaphorical truth.
But what’s so wrong?
The irony is: in the numerous questions we ask ourselves that fuel our sense of self-loathing, we don’t ask the right ones. Questions that narrow down who you are as a person.
What do you believe in? What do you stand for? Who are you?
The Photo Album
Imagine a life unfulfilled and unlived just because you chose to live on someone else’s terms.
Scary, isn’t it?
They say your life flashes before your eyes, like a photo album, when you’re nearing death.
Why not make sure that your album showcases memories with the people whose opinions matter? Those must be the people who add value to your life instead of filling it with reasons for you to quit living.
Life isn’t a cakewalk, and it certainly won’t be for Bryan, who battles against a conservative society to live a good life with his transgender girlfriend, Nadia.
For all the Bryans reading this right now, who do you want to share your album with?
Will Bryan finally come out of the closet and break free from the confines he finds himself in? Or is a cakewalk too farfetched?
