Fire!!!

When we think of fire, we often immediately think of fire and smoke. We think of orange flames and things that are completely lost. When does 'fire damage' occur? We will go into this in detail for you.

Fire insurance

'In the past' it was a literal name, fire insurance. Now it is more of a definition to see whether something is covered and can be reimbursed. Formally, the definition of fire is "a combustion-induced and flame-related outside of a hearth, capable of propagating under its own power."

Type of home insurance cover

Of course, the coverage of a home insurance policy depends on the type of coverage. For example, there is an extra comprehensive insurance or an all-risk insurance. A home insurance policy reimburses damage caused by extinguishing, smoke, soot, fire, melting and scorching damage, damage due to explosion, lightning strike, equipment burn-out and consequential damage. Salvage costs are also covered on the policy. Example: you try to put out a small flame on your couch with your coat. So you try to put out the fire with the jacket. The jacket is also eligible for reimbursement. As well as having fire extinguishers refilled.

Fire damage car insurance

Fire damage to a car is covered by the minimum WA + Limited Casco and WA + Full Casco / All-risk car insurance. With regard to possible reversion to the policy in claim-free years and/or relapse to the bonus malus ladder, a distinction can be made in the cause of the fire. Was the fire deliberately lit? Then the damage can affect the policy, provided the damage cannot be recovered from the perpetrator of course. Is the motor overheating causing a fire? Then there is no intent and the damage does not affect the policy. In that case, the amount of the car insurance premium will decrease further the following year.

Electric Vehicles (EV)

We've been seeing it more and more on the news lately. Electric vehicles that spontaneously ignite. Some apartment complex managers therefore now also prohibit parking EVs under or next to the apartment complex. Charging stations are even disconnected to prevent that. However, putting out an electric vehicle turns out to be very difficult. The fire brigade uses special plunge pools for this. Its use is very difficult in a garage under a complex because of the limited space. On the one hand we all really want to 'green' and on the other we want to limit the risk of fire as much as possible. The last word has not yet been said on this.

Commercial Building Insurance

Good fire insurance for a commercial property is essential for a quick restart of the company. We believe that an appraisal of the insured value of the commercial building and/or inventory should be the basis of any fire insurance policy. Because what good is it if the insured value is too low and a benefit will be reduced in the event of a benefit. That is not due to the quality of the fire insurance, but simply to the owner's list of priorities. So always have your business property appraised by an expert! And sometimes the insurer does it for you. In that case we are talking about a free valuation and not about an appraisal. In addition, the quality and use must also be correctly stated on the policy. And don't forget to report the presence of the solar panels to the fire insurer! And is the loss of rent covered on your policy? Perhaps we can go through your fire insurance policies.
