How are used tyres recycled and re-used in the market?

Similar to humans, tyres too have a lifespan. As a result, they become old, irreparable, and are often dumped in landfills, leading to severe environmental pollution. To reduce pollution, tyres can be recycled and re-used for various purposes.

Tyre Recycling

The recycling of tyres that can’t be further used on the vehicles because of wear and tear or irreplaceable damages are called tyre recycling, or rubber recycling. The waste tyres create the most problematic and challenging solid waste. Tyre recycling converts the waste tyres into new products that we can use.

At this point, you must be thinking about how the tyres are recycled. So here’s the step on how the tyres are recycled.

Process of Tyre Recycling

Using recycled tyre is a great idea. However, the process isn’t easy. It takes a lot of effort to recycle the tyres of rubber.

 Collecting waste tyres

Collecting waste tyres is the first step where the old/waste tyres are collected by the individuals and businesses who deal with tyre recycling. Some individuals collect used tyres for sale and submit them to the collection point. From the collection points, they get moved to the further steps.

 Shredding

The tyres are moved to processing plants and cut into small pieces in this step. The size of the tyre is reduced so that it can be handled easily. With the help of tyre shredders or rotating shafts, the tyres are made in small pieces. The pieces of 2-inch tyre shreds are produced in this stage.

 Steel Liberation

In this stage, the tyre wire is eliminated and separated from rubbers. The separation of fibre and screening are involved in this process. Street wires give strength and resilience to tires, which get removed and are recycled. These steel wires are moved to roll mills for new wheels. The remaining rubber is used in playgrounds as field turfs (called rubber mulch).

 Screening

The screening of large volumes and sizes of rubber is done. According to the sizes, rubber with no wires is sorted. In this process, screening is done to ensure that no wire is left in the rubber. It also eliminates any unwanted substances and leftover pieces.

 Cleaning

The process of cleaning is that which involves the thorough cleaning of the screened rubber. By using water and cleaning agents or chemicals, the rubber is cleaned here in a thorough process.

 Packing and Transporting

This is the final stage of the recycling process of tyres. The clean rubber is dispatched from the cleaning stage and gets packed. It is then transported to the different factories. Rubbers are needed as raw materials in the individual processing plants in the factories. Manufacturers of shoes and playground turfs are a few examples of such factories. Thus, the used tyres for sale are ready.

Re-using recycled tyres

Recycled tires are used everywhere, from the garden pavers to playground flooring to garden mulch. Unfortunately, inappropriately disposing of tyres is injuring the environment and a waste of beneficial resources.

The best way to dispensation of worn tyres is to recycle them properly. Here are a few great examples of used tyres for sale.

 Substitute to the gravels

If the gravel is being used anywhere, the chances are that tyre chips can be used instead. The tire chips can limit frost penetration when used under the road in cold weather. In comparison to the gravels, tyre chips are three times lighter. As a result, it produces excellent savings in labour, time, and costs of pieces of equipment. It is also used under the light rail tracks that run adjacent to residential areas because it reduces noise and vibration when the train passes by.

 Garden Mulch

The rubber mulch is beneficial because, during rainstorms, it doesn’t float away. It retains its appearance over time. The tyre chips don’t attract termites and other wood-boring insects.

 Landfill Medium

The recycled tyres can be used as a liner or a cover for landfills. It provides an alternative to coal or incinerator ash because both are absorbent. It can also be used as thermal insulation to decrease the temperature between primary and secondary landfill liners. Recycled tyre chips can be used very efficiently and cost-effectively as a landscaping medium for the landfills.

 Crumb Rubber

The finely grounded rubber formed by the waste tyres is called crumb rubber. After removing steel and tire cords from the discarded tyres, the leftover rubber is brought down to the granular consistency.

 Wastewater Treatment Filters

The recycled tyre can be used in several ways. For example, wastewater treatment and constructed wetlands are other innovative recycled tires. In addition, the tyres can be more or less porous than organic compounds, rocks, and different materials. Therefore, they can serve better as filter media.

The waste tyres are dangerous as they are non-biodegradable, energy-efficient, let out several harmful gasses and cover a lot of landfill space.

The waste tyres can be utilized properly once they get recycled. By recycling, new products of used tyres for sale can be made. The recycling process creates employment, prevents people from having diseases, discards  land pollution, and removes other dangers. So, go for the recycling method!
