When should you set up eSIM for your Android device?

For general eSIM settings

One of the biggest benefits of using an eSIM is its convenience. You can set up an eSIM anytime, anywhere without having to wait for a physical SIM card to arrive. This makes it perfect for switching networks, managing two numbers, or adding new data plans on the fly – all without having to change SIM cards.

For travelers

To enjoy seamless connectivity while travelling, it’s best to set up your eSIM before your flight or at least before landing in your destination country. This ensures you have immediate access to data without relying on airport Wi-Fi or hunting for local SIM cards after your arrival.

Troubleshooting eSIM setup on your Android device

Having trouble setting up your olysim eSIM? Here's how to fix common errors:

###"Cannot add eSIM"

This error occurs when your device is locked to your carrier, meaning that the eSIM will work with the network of the carrier that locked it. To check if your Android is carrier locked, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators
  2. Disable the Automatically select option
  3. Please wait 30 seconds to see available carriers.

If you only see your carrier name, your phone is locked. If you see multiple carriers, your Android device is unlocked and can use an eSIM.

If your device is locked, please contact your carrier to request an unlock. Make sure you meet the eligibility criteria and follow the unlocking process.

"Your eSIM is not ready yet"

This eSIM error usually occurs on Android devices when the eSIM is already installed, when airplane mode is enabled, when there is an unstable Wi-Fi connection, or if you try to reinstall a removed eSIM. To resolve this installation error, follow these steps:

  • Check if the eSIM is already installed by checking ICCID.
  • Turn off airplane mode.
  • Connect to a strong and stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Perform manual installation using manual codes.

"Plan already in use"

The "Plan already in use" error occurs when the eSIM has already been installed on another device. If you are using the olysim eSIM, it can only be installed once and cannot be transferred. Please make sure you are using the correct device before installation.

Check if the eSIM is already installed by checking the ICCID (follow the steps above). If the eSIM has already been activated on another device, it cannot be reinstalled. You will need to purchase a new eSIM to use the olysim service on a different device.

"SIM card busy. Please try again later"

This eSIM error on your Android device may be due to network issues or conflicts within the operating system that may interfere with the installation. To fix it, follow these steps before trying the process again:
