The Toronto Caribana Carnival began in 1967 during Canada's Centennial celebrations to commemorate the emancipation of slaves. Over the years, the festival formed a bridge between the Caribbean community in Toronto with the Caribbean islands, as a mark of the city's great diversity.
Today, the festival is a month-long celebration that culminates into three days of pure entertainment during the first week of August. Millions of tourists flock to Toronto during the carnival, making it the largest cultural gathering in North America.

The Grand Parade is the main showdown of Toronto Caribana where costumed masqueraders and steelpan bands play from Exhibition Place to Lakeshore Boulevard in an epic street celebration.
