DJI Air 2S is the latest design of the AIR series from DJI, and it is the more powerful. It comes with a 1-inch sensor, 5.4K video, and the newest master shots These two drones DJI Air 2S and Mavic Air 2, have lots of similar things. Still, a significant difference is the new size of the camera, which is 1 inch. The camera has better video powers with a host of smaller ones, which includes improved connectivity and the latest zooming function.

Now the question is that how you will decide which drone is best for you? We have some explanations which will help you in finding out which drone is better for you. Here we will compare the drones in seven different ways, and at last, we will conclude that which one is winning the debate.

Comparison of DJI Air 2 vs. Mavic Air 2

  • Sensor: Sensor is the most significant difference between the DJI Air 2S and Mavic Air 2. DJI Air 2S has a 1 inch CMOS sensor, whereas Mavic Air 2 has a 0.5 inch CMOS sensor, which means the new drone has better light-gathering power. Although Mavic Air 2’s sensor footage is better according to its size, and the Air 2S is better in both terms, its video and stills. The Air 2S new sensor and image processing bring two other benefits: it can shoot 5.4K /30p or 4K/60p then this both are better beyond the Mavic Air 2 resolution and frame rate of 4K/30p.
  • Design: These two drones have an almost similar body with folding bodies with approximately equal weight (the Air 2S has 25g heavier weight) and a parallel dimension (the Mavic Air 2 is 4mm longer). One more small difference is that the Air 2S has an extra pair of barrier avoidance sensors on the top. These join the one you already have on the Mavic Air 2, which is on the drone’s front, rear, and bottom. DJI drones are more comfortable when they have a clear path to fly and when this is primarily that how you will tend to shoot, this is a minor difference between the DJI Air 2S and Mavic Air 2.
  • Shooting Modes: Both of the drones are packed with automated flying mode. The main difference between these two drones is that their updated version includes Active Track 4.0 and Advance Pilot Assistant System (ASAP) 4.0 and adds one more feature, which is Mastershots. MasterShot is another helpful mode aimed at beginner flyers. When you choose an object to focus on it, it will automatically record a video on one of the three possible routes and edit that footage with soundtrack and subtitles when needed of that object. There are given that the Mavic Air 2 already has the same FocusTrack mode as the Air 2S, then we would say that these flying features likely are not a reason to upgrade to the latest model. So the most significant difference is the sensor of those two drones.
  • Range and Transmission:  The Air 2S has the edge over the Mavic Air 2 if it comes to both the content and the stability of its connection to its controller. The transmission system of the drone can affect few things, including how long you can fly it. The resolution of the video feed sent to your smartphone and the speed at which your videos can be downloaded, and the overall stability of the signal.
  • Battery Life: When we consider DJI Air 2S, it has a new camera, more sensors, and a slightly heavier body compared to the Mavic Air 2. Given both drones use approximately similar battery then you might expect that their battery life is considerably worst. But in the real world, there is no actual difference between them. The DJI Air 2S has 31 min of the flight mode, whereas the Mavic Air 2 has 34 min of the flight mode. In a test, we found that the Air 2S gives around 20 min of actual flight time, which is about equality for drones of this size.
  • Zoom: Although neither of these drones has optical zoom. The Air 2S does draw on its 5.4K resolution that provides better digital zoom function not possible on the Mavic Air 2.
  • Price: The most significant factor for most people in buying a drone is the cost. The DJI Air 2 price for the US and UK clients for its Fly More bundle are $1,000/£1,000. We usually suggest buying this bundle which includes features like two extra batteries, a carry case, and more. DJI Air 2S has a 1-inch sensor, 10-bit video recording, and new zoom functions now; we think it is more expensive than the Mavic Air 2.
