Nothing that south Indian food can’t solve, right? Some of the dishes that are a hit amongst many are Masala Dosa, Masala Idli, Idli, uttapam, amongst many. However, when compared with other cuisines, it still is quite underrated. South Indian food maintains a fine balance between flavours and different spices; moreover, it is a much healthier option as well.

When talking about this cuisine majorly five states come under it- Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh; it also includes union territories of Lakshadweep, Pondicherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Some of the dishes that are loved by many and hold a special in our hearts are as follows-

Masala Dosa– Not only is it a hit amongst the people of the south but all over the country. You can’t just have one bite, as you will be left wanting more. If you are wondering how it is made, then all you need is rice, lentils, potatoes, curry leaves and methi, and then top it with different kinds of chutney and sambar. Its roots come from Tuluva Mangalorean cuisine. If you can’t figure out what drink goes with it the best, the answer to this is fairly simple- Its filter coffee!

Masala Idli – This dish is so versatile, you can either have it as a quick snack or as a meal, depending on your hunger! All you need is idli, tomatoes, mustard seeds and curry leaves. You can make it on your own, as it is easy to make and is less time-consuming. No matter the time, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can consume it any time of the day. Dakshin Idli that is provided by one of the most beloved food chains of India, Haldiram, is one of the most delicious you will ever have.

Medu Vada– Anything doughnut-shaped, we love! Medu Vada is a dish that is made from Vigna mungo (black lentil or urad dal). It has a crisp exterior and soft interior just like us. It is a major hit amongst the south and Sri Lankan Tamil people, and you can usually consume in the morning as a breakfast item or a quick snack.

Mysore Masala Dosa– People more often than not mix it with masala dosa, as the difference between the two is very thin. Moreover, everything boils down to what your preference and taste are. To make this all you need is boiled potatoes with a seasoning of mustard seeds and garnishing of grated coconut, coriander, and lemon juice and added with a twist of fiery red chutney which is made with garlic and red chillies.

For those of you who cherish and love having South Indian cuisine, the above mentioned were some of the dishes that you should never miss. Another thing that you shouldn’t skip is Haldiram Dakshin express as they have so much to offer.
