We all know that leaving the windows open in the summer will make your house warmer, and leaving them closed will make your house cooler. But how does this work?

It’s pretty simple actually, think of when you go out to your car in the summer, it’s pretty hot right? The same thing happens in your home, the sun rays penetrate your windows and heat up your furniture, countertops, rugs, and floors. Since everything inside is heating up, your house heats up. And since your windows are closed, no heat can escape, since the heat generated by the things in your house cannot leave through the windows.

Now let's say that you put a sunshade in your car, it keeps it much cooler right? That's because the sun cannot get in to heat up your car. The same thing happens with blinds, shades, or shutters. The covering on the window prevents the sun from getting to things inside your home, and heating them up. Thus keeping your home cooler.

So, if you are looking to regulate the temperature in your home without using your expensive air conditioning units all of the time, look into getting some custom made blinds, shades, or shutters. They can be a bill saver.
