A couple of weeks before, an Old School Runescape player who goes by mazrim_lol on Reddit claimed a”serious information breach” had caused him to lose 45 billion coins onto his main account. His claims were dismissed by a number of other players, several of whom indicated that it was his own fault for not having the accounts correctly secured, or he may be lying around it completely. However, it came to light now he was not lying, which he had been right regarding the information breach, which was actually an inside job at Jagex. “We affirm that a Member of The Old School Team has been dismissed from job at Jagex subsequent gross misuse of moderator privileges,” Jagex said in an announcement posted now. “During our rigorous regular system tests, intermittent activity was identified on small number of accounts, including the movement of riches and items back to the live game”
“Following our investigation, we were able to solve the issue before any substantial effect was made into the broader game, or market. We also have taken measures to return items and GP to some accounts that are affected. Whilst we do not return items or stone, we feel that given this odd situation, we wanted to ensure no players dropped out into the rogue activities of a member of team “
Jagex added that it is”working together with the authorities” concerning the episode –45 billion coins has significant real-world value–but said it could not provide additional specifics. He is also allegedly involved with the Reign of Terror clan, which was accused of using DDoS attacks to impede competitions in tournaments, such as a $20,000 championship that took place in September of this past year.
