Marvel’s longest-standing television show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D recently concluded the series with its Season 7 finale on August 12. The stunning finale answered a lot of unanswered points. The television series is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and acknowledges the storyline set by the films. One such classic example is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, as the show’s story progressed through season 1-7, it started to pull away from MCU movies. The conclusion of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D made it clear that the end was nowhere related to the Marvel films.
Season 7 Changes Timeline of Major Event in One Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 7 has officially changed the timeline of a significant event that took place in MCU’s Captain America: Winter Soldier. Season 7, Ep 5- A trout in the milk, showed S.H.I.E.L.D arriving in 1973. They come across Hydra’s Project Insight, a satellite project that targets any potential threat to Earth.
However, this storyline is initially shown in the above-mentioned Captain America movie, which is set in the year 2014. This indicates that Hydra’s plan has moved forward five decades, and there was no Captain America to stop them because he is still under the ice. The reason this happens is that Chronicoms have a plan to rewrite history so that they can conquer Earth in the present.
S.H.I.E.L.D Travels Back in Time to Protect the Timeline
The final season saw Coulson and the team fighting a war with Chronicoms after traveling back in time. S.H.I.E.L.D’s main aim was to protect the original timeline, but they failed at their mission. One of the major twists in Season 7 was when the alien race Chronicoms altered Mack’s timeline by taking the life of his parents. Episode 10 in season 7 showcases a S.H.I.E.L.D traveling back to 1983, to protect Quake’s mother, Jiaying. However, she is killed by Hydra leader Wilfred Malick’s son, threatening the Inhuman’s very existence. Jiaying’s character was killed off at a time even before Daisy was born. This is why there was a threat to the Inhuman.
Before Jiaying is killed, the team comes in contact with Quake’s mother on Afterlife, a planet inhabited by Inhumans. She was introduced in the initial seasons of the series. She was later killed off for betraying her daughter by using Quake for her own selfish needs.
Deke’s “Timestream Idea”
No one has figured out the concept of time travel in the real world. So, television shows and movies tend to make their version with a specific set of rules. One example can be of Deke talking about the “timestream idea” in the very first episode. He asked what if time is a stream and a few sticks are thrown into it? Adding on to it, he said if there are fewer sticks, the flow of water stays the same, but if there are a lot of sticks, the stream hits a blockage, and there is a change in direction. However, Deke was utterly wrong with his theory. Time-traveling creates an entirely new timeline, and the branches increased as the season progressed in the series final run.
