Nowadays, true wireless earbuds can be found everywhere. Since they become more popular, customization has also begun to emerge. It is sensible that Razer is one of the leading companies delivering a robust case that earbuds like Hammerhead are worth their specialized target and your attention.
The Hammerhead True Wireless 2021 iteration is intending to make the gaming experience more mobile and portable. There’s an apparent try to make them suitable with Razer’s other gaming devices for those willing for consistency. But these wireless earbuds should serve the gamers who are looking for lag-free sound in a light-weighted package, with or without any other Razer tech.
Price and Availability of Hammerhead True Wireless (2021)
The company has officially released the Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds in August 2021. They are the second generation of the same pair of earbuds. The original pairs of these earbuds will be discontinued as a consequence. This time, the 2nd iteration earbuds can merely be found on Razer’s official website. But they should come to stores like Best Buy and Amazon soon.
The Razer Hammerhead Wireless earbuds are now on sale for $129.99 in retail stores and online. However, they may not go down in price in the near term. These earbuds are only available in black color, but the Razer logo on the earbuds changes to a broad range of colors.
ANC, Good Sound, and RGB Lighting
The Hammerhead True Wireless 2nd-gen edition comes in a broad charging case like the AirPods Pro vs. the pill-resembling original Hammerheads. The company builds the case with matte plastic material. So, even if it seems sleek, it likely can leave fingerprints and smudges pretty easily. The internal part sports a custom groove cut that greatly suits the earbuds, and a charging indicator LED can be seen on the front. Underneath the charging case is a USB-C port. Unluckily, it doesn’t have any wireless charging.
As Razer sported the latest Google Fast Pair feature to make it compatible with Android devices, it will have to pair to an iPhone the old-fashioned manner. This True Wireless (2021) utilizes Bluetooth 5.2, so it’s quite easy to pair. To do so, just open the lid of the charging case, and pick the earbuds from the Bluetooth menu of your iPhone. After pairing, you can watch the battery percentage and use the Razer apps for customization.
The original Razer Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds were a half in-ear design that most people honestly did not find comfortable at all, just like the basic AirPods. The latest Razer Hammerhead earbuds switch to a fully in-ear structure with silicone ear tips that we find way safer and comfier than the previous design. By default, it is available with the Medium silicone ear tips installed, but you also find tiny and Large size ear tips delivered in the box.
If we talk about the sound quality, these earbuds are pretty nice. They have 10mm, speaker drivers inside. Its default settings sound awesome for the price. Though, if we combine the EQ settings of the iPhone with the other EQ settings in the companion Razer Audio app, you can fine-tune the sound to what you like. You will find five EQ settings (Default, Amplified, Enhanced Clarity, Enhanced Bass, and Vocal) in the Razer Audio app. Plus, you can make a custom one too.
Affordable but Lacking Some Features
We don’t like the charging case of the Razer Hammerhead earbuds. Also, it is prone to fingerprints and smudges easily, and it seems really bad after that. We would suggest keeping a case on this to lower the issue. Another problem with its charging case is that it doesn’t even support wireless charging, only USB-C.
When we were testing the Razer Hammerhead True Wireless 2nd-gen earbuds, we didn’t like that the audio does not automatically pause after taking one earbud out. You need to pause your music before removing an earbud from your ears if that matters to you.
Talking about the playback, the touch controls on Hammerhead True Wireless earbuds take a little time to learn. As it has some distinct modes and playback choices without any tangible buttons, all the controls depend on touch. You will find the standard tap, double-tap, and triple-tap. Plus, you will also find the tap-and-hold control gestures. The control gestures aren’t that bad if you get used to them, but it has a bit of a learning curve. So, we would suggest you just need to have a look at the manual before attempting them all out. Or at least you can remap the touch controls via the Razer Audio app.
Finally, we also don’t like that the iOS doesn’t have the Google Fast Pair feature that Razer included for supporting Android devices. But we assume this can’t be helped. After all, Apple reserves such a type of fast connection experience for AirPods, but we just thought it is worth pointing out, you’ll require an Android device to enjoy the Google Fast Pair technology.
