You can do it yourself if your window is broken.

How to Replace the Weather stripping on Horizontal Slider Windows

  • Accidents certainly happen, and damaged windows are sometimes the result of them. When you try to replace the glass, you may notice that the window is framed with aluminum, which is a problem. Because there appears to be no way to change the glass in these frames, they may appear frightening, but in actuality, the process is extremely straightforward. Most manufactured aluminum frame windows are assembled from numerous elements, including glass, a silicone seal, and the four aluminum pieces that form the frame. The frame sections are held together by four screws, one in each corner. To remove the glass pane from the window frame, locate and remove the screws holding it in place.
  • Remove the window frame to make the window glass replacement process easier and more secure during the operation. To remove the sliding aluminum pane from the window frame, lift it up and out of the way. Before sliding out of the frame, use a screwdriver to loosen any screw screws that are holding the panes in place.
  • Find the screw fasteners that hold the four-piece frame together at each corner, and screw them in place. Remove each screw with a screwdriver and carefully take each piece of glass out of the cracked pane of glass. Using the slotted end of the screwdriver, pry any trapped frame components free from their positions. When tugging or prying on the frame pieces, take care not to bend the pieces.
  • Remove the silicone seal that covers the outside edge of the broken glass to reuse it; if the seal is broken or torn, you'll need to purchase a replacement. With the flat end of the slotted screwdriver, scrape away any remaining seal residue that has accumulated.
  • Using saw horses, secure the new glass to a flat workspace such as a workbench or a built-up work area. (Optional) Ensure the silicone seal, whether it is old or new, is tight around the outside edge of the glass and that there are no bubbles or loose areas.
  • Slide each metal frame piece onto the outside edge of the glass, ensuring that they are installed in the same manner before removing the previous glass. With a mallet, carefully tap the aluminum frame over the glass to secure it.
  • Butt up each metal corner so that it is flush with the surrounding frame, then thread in each screw with the screwdriver, making your way around the entire window frame until it is secure. The entire outer edge of the newly manufactured glass window should be inspected. Check to see that the seal is flush with the frame; if not, gently push it against the frame with your hand or with the slotted screwdriver.
  • To complete the glass installation process, reinstall the window pane into the frame in the same manner as it was first taken from the frame.
