Macau's October casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) rose 31.6% month-on-month to nearly 3.99 billion ($482.3 million) from MOP 2.96 billion in September, government data showed on Tuesday.
This was the second consecutive monthly gain in the GGR following previous underperformance amid periodic COVID-19 warnings and periodic adjustments to travel rules related to the Macau border with neighboring Guangdong province's Zhuhai. Most tourists to Macau come from mainland China and cross in bulk through the land border with Zhuhai.
Compared to the same period last year, the October tally was down 10.7% from nearly MOP 4.37 billion achieved in October 2021. 파친코
“This means 126 million MOPs per day of utilization, which is only 15% of pre-COVID levels,” DS Kim and Livy Liu analysts at JPMorgan Securities (Asia Pacific) said in a note on Tuesday after the October figures were released. This is not surprising at all in the situation.”
The latest monthly results, released by the Regional Regulator, Game Inspection and Coordination Agency (DICJ), mean the year-to-date GGR to October 31 was 35.72 billion MOPs, down 50.5% from a year earlier.
The update was released as Macau again launched mass testing of the city's entire population, with Macau having 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The process begins at 7 a.m. on Tuesday (November 1) and runs until 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
October included the so-called Autumn Golden Week at the beginning of the month, traditionally an important revenue season for Macau casinos and tourist facilities. Macau recorded a total of more than 182,000 visitor arrivals from Oct. 1-7, according to the city government.
