For those who work in London City Centre, you know that commuting into the capital can not only be difficult, but it can also be expensive. Driving into the city is something that you will lose a lot of time on but the tube seems to be too busy during rush hour. However, there are a few simple methods of saving money and time when you are commuting to the city centre.

Commuting From a Long Distance

Commuting to London from a long distance is obviously going to be more expensive than being close. If you are commuting from afar, you will likely be using the national rail service which isn’t the most affordable or reliable but when you are struggling, it is the best option. In some cases, flying there may be more affordable but the only issue with this is that you have to be located near an airport. So for most people, it will be better to get the train.

To ensure that you save money commuting on the train, the best option for you would be to pre-purchase your train tickets far in advance. There is a specific time they become available but if you book it far in advance, you can save money drastically.

For Those Commuting Short Distance

Short-distance commutes will be a lot cheaper however, they can still be very time-consuming due to the traffic when entering the city. For some people, the bus can be a better solution because it is the most affordable. Depending on the time, your commute can also be relatively quick. If you are working in the city, ask your boss whether you can work on flexi-time. This means you can either start work later or earlier, meaning you would need to finish work earlier/later, depending on which one you do.

Another good form of travel would be to use the tube station which is arguably the most consistent and cost-effective for those who live in and around the city. However, it is also one of the busiest forms of transport which is why many people wish to avoid it. Nevertheless, you avoid all of the traffic on the roads which can also save you even more time.

What About If You Only Work A Few Days In London?

If you only work one or two days a week in the capital, buying season tickets for trains and buses wouldn’t be very cost-effective. In this scenario, it may be better for you to commute into the city centre via your vehicle. Yes, parking can be expensive and you also have the fees for low-emission driving zones and parking in central London that are outside of these zones. Nevertheless, you will save a lot of time commuting this way, as long as you avoid the busy areas and yes, there are roads which are busier than others.

Summary

There are many ways where you can save time and money when you are travelling to London. Travelling by bus and train seems to be the most reliable although with how busy these forms of travel can be, it can be very offputting. Travelling by car offers a better solution but even the roads can be busy then. It all depends on what you want to sacrifice for the other.
