At present, SMRT has an extended approach all across Singapore, and the work of introducing eight more lines is on its way and is expected to complete by 2030. A Glorifying Beginning of SMRT in 1987

The impressive journey of the SMRT rail network started way back in 1987 as Singapore's oldest yet integral rail transportation network for millions of passengers. The very first North-South Line started more than two decades ago with five stations connecting Yio Chu Kang to Toa Payoh that spans 45 km of distance. For all these years, SMRT has become an important, reliable, and cost-effective daily commutation means for several people. Moreover, SMRT has upgraded most parts of the North-South Line with regular improvements in replacing core systems, signaling systems, track circuits, sleepers, and more. 

The Longest East-West Line of SMRT

This phase of SMRT's rail network spans 35 state-of-the-art and fully secure stations with frequent updates made by the authorities. Upcoming Railway Network Lines of SMRT

Phase 1 of Cross Island Line has already been started by SMRT in Singapore and is slated to complete by 2030. By far, Cross Island Line is expected to meet the daily commutation requirement of approximately 600,000 people and will be more than 50km in distance. This line of rail network will feature more than 30 planned stations while connecting major hubs like Punggol Digital District, Jurong Lake District, Changi Region, etc. 

The Jurong Cross Line is another ongoing phase of SMRT which is on its way to completion by 2029. This 24km long railway network will comprise 24 stations and will be Singapore's first elevated MRT line and connect major hubs including Choa Chu Kang, Jurong East, Boon Lay/Jurong West, etc. 

Lastly, Thomson-East Coast Line is another ongoing SMRT rail network project that comes under the Stage 3 stations, already completed in 2022. This phase will have easter and northern phases to be constructed in Singapore and is expected to complete by 2025. The Thomson-East Coast Line will feature 32 stations, spanning across a long distance of 43km, and will feature fully automated four-car trains.
