On hot days, it's difficult to stroll down the road without passing somebody sipping a drink every other corner. Most people are moving from sweet drinks with artificial ingredients to cold-pressed juices and smoothies. More people are buying extractors and blenders from the market, and new juice bars keep on coming up on city roads, in shopping centers, and even in general stores.

There are many reasons why people are turning to fresh juice. The major reason is of course, the health factor. Moreover, fresh juices are tasty, and can be made quickly. According to many people, it is easier to grab a smoothie in the morning than preparing breakfast.

What is cold-pressed juice?

Cold pressing utilizes a similar principle as the hand-crank citrus juicer your mom or grandma may have used: the natural products or vegetables are pressed between two metal plates to separate the juice. Present day juice extractors may grind or chop the item prior to applying pressure to take the juice from the pulp.

Benefits

As cold-squeezed juices are generally served fresh, they hold a greater amount of a fruits or vegetable's nutrients and minerals. They don't have the added sugars or artificial sweeteners that most packaged juices contain. Furthermore, when a glass of juice is pressed from a few natural products or vegetables, it is probably going to have a more extensive cluster of nutrients per ounce than a single piece of fruit.

Downsides

The juice has less fiber than a whole fruit or vegetable will have. Also, fruit juices, in particular, have a higher glycemic index, which is a measure of how a food raises blood-sugar levels. Thus, these juices increase calorie consumption and is not a great choice for health-conscious people.

What are smoothies?

Smoothies are normally mixtures of pureed fruits, pureed vegetables, juices, dairy items, coconut milk, soy milk, almond milk, spices, and herbs. The health and calorie quotient of the drink can differ generally as according to the ingredients.

Benefits

Smoothies are the best way to consume vegetables if you wish to add them to your diet. Blending these not too tasty veggies with delicious fruits like berries or peach can cover up the taste. Moreover, smoothies are nutritious than juices as they have more fiber and low glycemic index.

Downsides

If you are not careful with the ingredients, smoothies can pack in the calories. For instance, smoothies service at a juice bar or restaurant can have honey, syrup or added sugar which can significantly increase the calories. If you are blending your own smoothie, avoid using flavoured yoghurts which contain added sweeteners.
