Are dentists recommending Root Canal Treatment for children with early teeth?
Baby teeth are less likely to last than adult teeth and can fall out between 6 and 12 years old. Why save them with a root canal treatment when there are other options available such as tooth extractions?
This is the question most parents ask when their dentist recommends that root canal treatment in Dubai be performed immediately for their child.
Functions of Baby Teeth
Primary teeth, also known as baby teeth, play a much more important role in chewing. They keep the space open until their permanent counterparts emerge. It is crucial to restoring baby teeth for speech development and a healthy smile.
Your child will lose one or more of his baby teeth before the rest fall out. The adjacent teeth will naturally fill the gap by gravitating toward each other. This can cause the permanent tooth to become misaligned or even block, resulting in crooked or crowded permanent teeth.
This is why many pediatric dentists in Dubai prefer to fix an infected baby tooth rather than remove it. There are many benefits to saving a baby's tooth. We have listed some of them below.

A root canal treatment can cause a child to feel numb. These steps will help you prepare your child for this relatively painless treatment.
Step 1: Most children dread dental visits due to fear of dental pain. First, calm down your child and assure him that anesthesia will eliminate pain.
Step 2: The dentist will use x-rays to determine the location and the method of root canal surgery. After numbing the affected area with local anesthesia, he will start the procedure.
If your child is allergic to anesthesia, antibiotics, or any other medications, inform our dentist immediately.
Step 3: The dentist will anesthetize the area and remove any braces or fillings. As a precaution, he will wrap the tooth in a rubber sheet. Once the area has been identified, the dentist will begin to drill into the root canal.
He will use high-precision root canal tools to remove the infected pulp. Then, he will clean the inside with antibacterial liquids. He will seal the cavity with a special dental filling after allowing it to dry.
There are two types of procedures
Our pediatrician will determine the best treatment for the child based on the X-rays and the severity of the infection.
Pulpotomy is performed if there is an infection at the pulp chamber's surface. If that’s the case, only the pulp is removed. After that, the area is sealed with an antibacterial lotion.
A pulpectomy is a procedure that involves removing the pulp chamber and root canal. The infected area will then be cleaned and sealed. The crown will be placed to strengthen the tooth after both procedures.
