Welcome to Jodhpur – a bustling megacity on the edge of the Thar Desert in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Its characteristic blue houses have graced many a magazine cover. Indeed Lonely Earth isn't vulnerable to its charms. I don’t condemn them. There are so numerous effects to do in Jodhpur.
On that rather palatable note, let me regale you with tales of my favorite effects to do in Jodhpur-

# 1 Start your day with a mug of Masala Tea at Bhati Tea Stall

Masala Chai (Spiced Tea) is natural to the meter of life in India. Then in Jodhpur, locals love their morning cuppa. Storming pots of tea made with milk, cardamom, cloves, sugar, gusto, and tea leaves are everyplace to be seen. No day begins without a bitsy mug (or two) of spiced tea, known as cutting chai, in original parlance. It’s hard to get a bad mug of tea in Jodhpur but locals are partial to Bhati Tea Stall. There's always a crowd swarming at this bitsy cube and it’s easy to see why – their pop is inconceivable!

Just book your Tempo Traveller in Jodhpur

Know before you go – A mug of tea at most tea booths will set you back by INR 10 – INR 30.

# 2 Opt for a Desert Experience like no other with Overlander Safaris
Exploring the little-given townlets and hutments of pastoral Rajasthan with Overlander Safaris was one of the highlights of our trip to Jodhpur. This is nothing like a typical desert safari – there were no beach- stacks or touristy destinations insight on our day out with Overlander. Rather we drove deep into the pastoral outback of Rajasthan.

Know before you go – Overlander Safaris offer custom-made planners for day passages and longer passages. Prices vary consequently. Prices include the cost of refections and camping.

# 3 Explore Mehrangarh Fort
No list of effects to do in Jodhpur is complete without a citation of the potent Mehrangarh Fort. One of the largest castles in India, it stands altitudinous atop a vertical precipice. It’s easy to spend the better part of a day exploring the sprawling complex and harkening to various stories on your audio companion.

Know before you go – The entrancing figure is£ 4/ INR 400 for transnational excursionists and£0.60/ INR 60 for Indian citizens as of December 2014. This includes an audio companion to the stronghold.

# 4 Dine at Indique Restaurant, Pal Haveli
The handsome Mehrangarh Fort is bathed in the most gorgeous light in the evening and the Indique Restaurant at Pal Haveli provides the perfect edge point from which to view this spectacle. The food isn’t spectacular but the view surely is – don’t miss it for the world.

Know before you go – Make sure you reserve a table – the eatery can get veritably crowded in the gloamings. Request for a table on the sundeck overlooking the Mehrangarh Fort. A mess at Indique Restaurant will set you back by£ 10/ INR1000 as of December 2014.

# 5 Share in an Amal Sabha, a traditional Opium Ceremony
. This might be a bit controversial but we’ll roll with it. Opium is banned in India but authorities turn an eyeless eye to it in the state of Rajasthan because it's natural to the culture in this part of the country. The Amal Sabha, a traditional Opium form, is said to be over 1000 times old.

# 6 Have a glass of Makhani Lassi at Mishrilal Hotel
It’s India – there’s no getting down from road food. Every megacity in India has many fabulous road- food joints. Mistral Hotel is one of those treasures. Everyplace you go, you'll be told about the ambrosial lassi served at this little eatery near Jodhpur’s timepiece palace. It's veritably popular with the locals.

Know before you go – 1 glass of Makhaniya Lassi at Mishrilal Hotel costs INR 30 as of December 2014.

# 7 Sample mouth-soddening snacks at Janta Sweet Home
On the subject of food, you can’t leave Jodhpur without testing an array of original delectables at Janta Sweet Home. Come empty – this fabulous sweet shop is bound to sate you. There’s a host of Indian confections and snacks on offer, but its most notorious immolations include Jodhpuri Mirchi vada (Breaded and fried green peppers stuffed with potatoes) and Pyaaz ki Kachori ( crisp confection with a racy onion filling).

Know before you go – Testing all 3 snacks at Janta Sweet Home will set you back by£ 2/ INR 200 as of December 2014.

# 8 Hunt for THE Blue Houses
We don’t condemn you for allowing Blue Houses are ubiquitous in Jodhpur if you have been probing online about your trip to the megacity. In reality, they’re a lot tougher to find. They might be each over the internet but they’re near as fugitive as The Faraway Tree (any other Enid Blyton suckers out there?). Ok not really, but you get the idea!

Know before you go – For further prints and details, read our composition on the blue houses of Jodhpur (opens in new tab)

# 9 Talk to the people
Everyplace you go, you'll find smiling faces in Jodhpur. The megacity isn't touristy enough (well not yet anyway!) to the pride of shopkeepers with bored eyes of locals out to betray excursionists into a fiddle or two. The requests then are veritably different from the central souks of Marrakech or the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Shopkeepers still have an eyeblink in their eye and locals are open to long, rambly exchanges.

# 10 Shop
Sardar Market comprises the complicated stores girding the Clock Tower in Jodhpur. You can find everything from various shoes and crockery to spices and teas then. It’s akin to a various study – just be prepared to bargain.
