Honestly, they aren’t that much different; the Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite are outstanding as the devices look nearly identical. Both are affordable options in the streaming space, especially if you don’t have a TV that can play UHD content or don’t care about 4K.

Both Fire TV Sticks share similar video qualities and can display up to 1080p with support for the following formats: HDR10/10+, HBR, HLG. Both provide 8GB of storage and share a similar quad-core processor. They differ in how you can process and output Dolby Atmos Audio and easy-to-use Alexa Voice Remotes. The Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Lite can play the video with Dolby Atmos Audio, but the Fire Stick Lite requires an HDMI pass-through to process it.

Although most customers will notice and generally care more about the kind of Alexa Voice Remote each has. The Stick TV Lite version of the Alexa Voice Remote can control the user interface of the Fire TV experience; there is Push-button voice access to Alexa, but no means to control your TV. The Fire TV Stick provides the full Alexa Voice Remote with buttons to control the power and volume on your TV.

Let’s dive in to see why you might prefer one of these streaming sticks over the other.

Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite

Amazon Fire TV Sticks have frequently been on sale for this price, and none of them retailed for such a customer-friendly rate. The entry-level streamer can play HD quality video and Dolby Atmos Audio with an HDMI cable. Additionally, you can get a version of the great Alexa Voice Remote.

Pros:

  • Most budget-friendly Fire TV Stick
  • It comes with Alexa Voice Remote
  • Also, Climate Pledge Friendly certified

Cons:

  • It doesn’t support UHD, 4K, or Dolby Vision
  • Only Dolby Atmos Audio accessed via HDMI pass-through cable
  • Basic functions can’t control by a TV remote

Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen)

The constant Fire TV Sticks gets the full Dolby Atmos audio integration and Alexa Voice Remote that can control your basic TV functions like volume and power just for $10 more than the lite.

Pros:

  • Completely Alexa Voice Remote that can control your Tv
  • 50% faster than the previous generation
  • Also, Climate Pledge friendly certified
  • It has HD quality picture with Dolby Atmos Audio integration

Cons:

  • It doesn’t support UHD, 4K, or Dolby Vision

Which should you purchase?

Both devices are almost similar and are only differentiated by $10. For a couple of reasons, I would like to recommend the Fire TV Stick Lite. For beginners, while the TV controls in the full Alexa Voice Remote are great to have, they’re not necessary. And this might be a big belief, but I’m challenging you if you can’t play Dolby video, you possibly don’t care about Dolby Atmos Audio.

As you have noticed, there are two main areas where these Fire TV Stick differ: Remote controls and their audio output (kind of).
